I'm Back! With a menu (AW)

Hi guys!  It's been awhile!  TK logged me out awhile ago and for the life of me I couldn't remember my password so I've just been lurking for a few weeks while I took care of some business...got my drivers license (FINALLY!), enrolled back in school to get my nutritionist certification, took up running to lose some extra weight before the wedding, ordered and received our invitations and have almost finished collecting addresses.

I finalized my menu with my caterer yesterday, let me know what you think!

POSSIBLY a three foot apple pie flambe and a zeppole stand that hands out zeppoles as the guests are leaving

Am I forgetting anything?  I'm positive none of my guests are full vegan.  One is gluten free but she eats meat, and FI hasn't mentioned any dietary constraints.

Thanks ladies, missed you!  Please excuse the poor formatting, I copied and pasted half of this and I couldn't get the bullet points to go away.

Re: I'm Back! With a menu (AW)

  • Welcome back!

And holy crap that's A LOT of food!!! Can I come? :)

2 things-- are there vegetarians in your crowd? I know you said no vegans, but if there are vegetarians it didn't seem like they had many options. Like, out of that long list of passed hors d'oeuvres I only saw maybe 2 that are vegetarian? And then the BBQ or Mediterranean grilling station and carving station etc don't seem like a vegetarian could have anything from there.

The other thing, I would keep the Mediterranean station as opposed to BBQ. (Just my own opinion, so take this with a grain of salt). The Mediterranean food sounds delicious. The BBQ trend for weddings has been around for a while, and so has the martini glasses of mashed potatoes (we had a build-your-own mashed potato station in martini glasses at an Xmas party back around 2003, so to me it's a very dated and over-done trend). Plus the thought of messy BBQ in fancy attire makes me cringe. But like I said, this is only my opinion. I know a lot of people like this and a lot of people would disagree with me.

wow that's a lot of food/options! I think I'd be full after cocktail hour and not need an entree
  • Come by Novella!!

    Thanks ladies :)

I only am sure of one vegetarian actually, and I'm not sure she'll be able to make it.  If she does though I've seen her eat penne al vodka at other parties, broccoli rabe, and she'd go nuts for the stuff at the Antipasto station (We've worked a colonial dinner event together before and she loves the marinated mushrooms and artichokes)  It's not a ton of vegetarian stuff at every station but each station has a couple of veggie dishes (except the carving station lol) and I think that my friend (and hopefully any other vegetarians that I don't know about) could make a nice cocktail hour plate.

kvruns-  I actually considered not having a plated meal but I got vetoed

  • I am drooling!
  • Not enough food IMO    :p

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Wow, I don't even know where to start... that sounds like enough food to feed 500 people for a week! All amazingly delicious-sounding, however! I'm giving you fair warning that I may be crashing your wedding, along with about 10-15 of my favorite foodie friends.
  • I'm coming too as @novella1186 's plus one :p Sounds good! I'm vegetarian and I agree there doesn't seem like an awful lot for us but I'd still manage to be full by the end of the day I'm sure!

  • I think you forgot that your guests will, in fact, be permitted to eat again following your wedding. I think it sounds absurd and excessive, but that's the style around here for sure and no one will go hungry!
  • God bless the New York/New Jersey over the top cocktail hour.  I love them.  :-)  Sounds delish!
