Does rehearsal dinner count as "hosting" wedding?

My fiance's family is hosting the rehearsal dinner... does this count as helping with "hosting" our wedding? They are not paying for anything in the wedding except the rehearsal.
I am wondering if their names should be included in the formal invitations...
Thanks!

Re: Does rehearsal dinner count as "hosting" wedding?

  • No.  The RD and wedding are two separate events.

But hosting does not always equal paying.  So unless they are collecting RSVPs and going to greet guests and answer any questions at your wedding then they aren't hosting it so you do not need to list them on your invite.

  • No.  Their names should only be included if they are hosting the wedding.  Their roles in the rehearsal dinner are not relevant to this determination.

If they are hosting the wedding, that means that they are issuing the invitations, receiving the responses, being the "point person" for guests to contact with questions or issues, greeting the guests at the wedding, and during the planning, making the arrangements that ensure that the guests' needs are attended to.  Whether or not someone is paying, and how much, again isn't relevant to this determination.
  • Great! Thank you for your responses! :)
  • No.  If there are written invitations sent out for the rehearsal dinner, their names would go on that, and your parents would not.
