So me and my finacee are trying to figure out where to go for our honey moon and not sure which countries we would be okay to go or romantic locations. If you guys can tell me where you went or plan on going or a list of locations that would be rad!
My fiance and I are going to Puerto Vallarta Mexico for our honeymoon. We went two years ago and felt very comfortable there; there is a district called the "zona romantica" which is basically like their gay district. we walked hand in hand every night and never felt uncomfortable!
we went to Puerto Rico. We had an amazing time, but I will say, it's not super queer friendly. You may get some looks, but it's pretty safe. If you want some info, we stayed at awesome little locally owned inns, and it was beyond gorgeous. We aren't the big hotel chain type of people and wanted to be more in local neighborhoods and areas.

@maxy2013 Have you been on a cruise? We were thinking about a cruise to the Bahamas but not sure if it's just better to fly and hang out there or take a ship the entire time!
yeah my travel agent said no on Bahamas. my FI brought up HI but not sure about there for a honeymoon. What part of Puerto Rico? My travel agent said its gay friendly and safe. She told us to look at San Juan Puerto Rico and Costa Rica
Cruise lines are very gay friendly. Princess cruises has publicized LBGT meetings to meet others on your cruise. You will be safe anywhere a cruise ship goes, but you might not want to go to Russia right now. Boo! Hiss!

We went all over Puerto Rico. It is not "gay friendly". It is "gay tolerant", as in, I don't think you have a lot to worry about as far as safety goes, but we still got dirty looks from time to time. And we went to a salsa club and danced, and we ended up with three VERY pissed off straight men. So, while I would say that there are pockets that are "friendly" (there is a gay beach, and some gay owned hotels), it's not somewhere you want to be out holding hands and kissing in public, etc.
We spent time in San Juan, Old San Juan, Rincon (which we loved the best), and Ponce, as well as day trips to other parts of the island.

If you want to go on a cruise, consider going on an Olivia Cruise.

My fiance and I are going for a week to Puerto Vallarta (PV) Mexico. We went two years ago and we felt safer there than at home! There is an area called "La Zona Romantica" which is basically the gay district. It has clubs, shops, etc. and is a perfect area to party. If you're looking to relax, there are gay friendly resorts, hotels, tours, etc. We walked hand in hand every night there, even had a romantic candle lit dinner and we were never bothered!
I've heard PV referred to as the San Francisco of latin america, so i would definitely consider it.
thank you!!! We decided to go to PR!!!! Super excited we finally narrowed it down! Now to find a hotel!!!
Hey there.
We just got back from another trip to Puerto Rico, and we stayed at a different hotel for a part of the trip.
The Pineapple Inn in Rincon was AMAZING. It's owned by two fabulous gay men, and they bring you fresh fruit and a pastry box every day. It only has 6 rooms and they cater to couples, so there are rarely kids on the property. I loved it.
go to costa rica! My fiancee and I went a few years ago and had no problems whatsoever. Plus it's an amazing place...there are only so many places you can go where monkeys jump around while you lounge on the beach by the ocean!
QueerFemme I have a question directly for you have you been to or heard anything about
Gran Meliá Puerto Rico Golf Resort ??
I haven't, but mostly because we really tried to avoid resorts. We wanted to stay at locally owned spots, and most resorts are corporate owned. I will say, this place is sort of "out there". it would be easy to get to the rainforest from here, but it will be a good drive to a lot of other places on the island. If you want to stay on the resort a lot, that's probably not a big deal, but if you want to be in the city, you might want to pick somewhere closer to San Juan, or on the other cities on the side of the island. (like Ponce/Rincon, etc.)
Oh okay good thing you told me that about the distance! My fiancee is nervous to stay at a locally owned place vs a huge resort because we never been there you know?! So, I don't know I will still try to talk her into it :P Yeah I would rather be in the city but did not see any San Juan hotels I cared for yet?! Maybe I am not looking in the right areas for a hotel.

LOL I was totally worried about the same thing. But, I did a ton of research and got lucky. It really depends on what experience you are trying to have. Resorts can be awesome, and you can get service at the drop of a hat. But, we didn't want to go all the way to Puerto Rico and feel like we were staying at any beach in Florida or California. So, I looked around, and found some really great spots. They aren't fancy like a high end resort, but they are in mostly local neighborhoods, and the owners were awesome at giving out information on local restaurants, etc.

okay so yeah we talked a lot over the weekend and we decided to do a boutique hotel that's really decent in price because I honestly told her that if we got a suite its pointless. We want to be in San Juan though were we can walk everywhere and be near the beach and be able to go dancing and drink. Do you have any recommendations for something in walking distance because she doesn't really want to rent a car lol...thanks so much for all your help!!!! I mean I rather spend money on doing things then on a hotel room so I am glad she came to her senses!!!
We have been very fortunate, we travel all over the world & have never run into any issues. Of course we are avoiding the Middle East & Russia right now, but aside from that(knock on wood) no issues.
For us its deciding between France & Australia for the Honeymoon. The big discussion being whether we want a cold Paris day or a hot Australian day
