8 months later & I hate my dress!

What do I do?

I went to my fitting today and was so disappointed. They let me look at other dresses to see if there was something I wanted to exchange it with, but I didn't find anything and I was so distraught I couldn't focus.

I bought my dress 8 mos ago and I have lost about 10-15lbs since then, but in my dress my body looks so pear shaped and the dress is a fitted mermaid so it accentuates my hips.

Do I just suck it up and wear it?

Re: 8 months later & I hate my dress!

  • It's a hard decision, you can always see if alterations will help, but that will decrease the value of your dress. You can get a new dress and lose some money or as you say suck it up. However, if you do hate the dress, you will forever look at your wedding pictures and that's all you will see
  • I totally understand the pear shape problem! I tried on a mermaid dress and my hips were out of control and I felt so uncomfortable.  Maybe try going back to the store and check out some A-line dresses after you've had a chance to process the situation.  A-line will accentuate your waist while hiding the hips.
  • I'm having a similar problem, I bought my dress in March and when I tried it on recently I absolutely hated it. It's a ball gown, and I feel like it swallows me. Currently trying to decide whether or not I should sell it.
  • Just curious, to better understand where you're at. You bought the mermaid style, which inherently accents hips, and you have since lost weight, but you now feel uncomfortable about it accenting your figure. So what changed? Did you try on a sample that didn't give you an idea of what the mermaid would actually look like, or do you think you're just being overly critical of yourself?
