Favorite picnic foods

I'm hosting what I suspect will be a 50 person event. Not all 50 people will be people I know, it's a community event. Have to be able to transport food to covered pavilion. I will have some ability to keep things cold until serving.

Ideas/favorites, please. I'm feeling decidedly uninspired.

Oh, more deets might help: serving at 11:30, speaker at noon, prefer mostly easily carry finger type foods, everything prepped in advance.

So far I've been thinking about hummus and accompaniments and bruschetta. That's it.

Something that no one really has to worry about food safety... I'd do a party sub from Subway, chips, cookies, fruit salad, soda/water/juice boxes/etc. Keep it simple, finger & dessert type foods that require no refrigeration nor extra handling...

Finger foods makes it hard. I was going to say skewers of stuff, but that can be a bitch for 50.

I'd buy a tray of sandwich sliders
Cut a watermelon into wedges slices
Make this black bean and rice salad (leave out the bacon and cheese) and serve it in the small clear cups

Pasta salad skewers- tortellini, cherry tomatoes, olives, you could add some cheese cubes or salami cubes. Make the night before and marinade overnight
Some sort of chex mix/nuts/trailmix

I would stay simple - get a sandwich tray, pasta salad, fruit and cookies.

I'm a huge fan of curry & apple chicken salad for picnics. Great as a sandwich, over greens, or on crackers. Roasted chicken, chopped, with curry powder, salt & pepper, mayo, and chopped apple.

I just did a fresh fruit/veggie tray (I made myself) and a meat/cheese tray, crackers, croissants and we had a local doughnut shop represented (i used both to make each spelling crowd happy). Everyone seemed pleased with the noshies.
