Hello! What's New?

I have been MIA for over a week and have some catching up to do! How has everyone been? What are my need to know items?

I spent the week working in the office and then we attended a wedding. The office was fun because I got to see people but being stuck in meetings from 8-5 every day was rough so I'm happy to be back home in my home office now and just settle back into daily work activities! The wedding was beautiful, it was in the groom's parent's back yard and they spent a year landscaping and getting it ready. They are surrounded by farm land that is super green right now and the bride did a beautiful job with simple decorations. There was great food, and cold beer so no complaints from me. FI was the best man and had to give a toast, I was freaking because he kept telling me "yeah I have thought about it and have ideas" and I kept telling him just write them down so when you get up there nervous you won't freeze. To my surprise he had a paper in his pocket and after welcoming and thanking the guests and introducing himself he went into this:

"My finance told me I needed to write this speech, that's lesson #1, do as you're told. Now that I'm up here and nervous I'm realizing she was right, that's lesson #2, 'honey you're right'". It was cute and got a good laugh (for the record no, I don't think I'm always right, and I don't tell him what to do).

Overall, a well hosted, beautiful event that was a lot of fun!

What is the most exciting thing that happened to you this last weekend or week?

  • Ha ha!  That is cute!

I had a fun 3-day weekend.  Saturday was my birthday; we went to Arlington International Racecourse (first time!).  I placed one bet and lost $11- fine.  I just wanted to bet to say I'd done it.  It was still a fun day; just a bit cool / windy.

Sunday we went to FPILs' house to grill for his dad on Father's Day.  I always like going to their house and we got to hear about an annual trip his mom takes w/ some of her retired teacher friends.

Monday, I went to my Godmother's and just caught up and visited with her and her family and we tried some hair styles for the wedding- we're on the right track.

Getting back into the groove at work though is just *ugh*  I feel kind of blah and I think the barometric pressure is giving me a headache.
  • Feeley, we were at the track Sunday for Father's Day. I won a whopping $3.40.  The last we were there on Mother's Day, I was up $70! Yay for long-shots!

Monster, that is a cute story!

What's new? DH started his new job yesterday- a promotion! Woo! He's wanted one forever. We're also in week 3 of marathon training. Everything's fairly calm, which I shouldn't say, lest I jinx things.

Nothing really for me.  I worked on Friday and Friday night and then again on Saturday.

Sunday was nice.  I took the dogs to the park, cleaned, took the dogs to lunch and then frozen yogurt, grocery shopping.     Then we to a friend's house for dinner.     There were a total of 9 of us there.   7 of the 9 are chefs.    The friend's wife and I were the only non-chefs.  We just sat back while everyone else cooked for us.  :)

DH cooked at Aspen Food and Wine on Sunday.     Andrew Zimmerman and Chef Jacques Pepin hung out with DH in his booth.  They both said he had the best dish.    It wasn't a competition or anything like that, but DH was pretty stoked just the same.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

  • I wish I had  something new to share! But I think everything is the same over here. It's hot. It's sunny. I got sunburn in 30 minutes. The same.

i did find out we're getting a 1.5% cost of living raise this year, so for me that's like $500 a year...

@thisismynickname, I feel like we are always ALMOST bumping in to each other in Chicago-land.  Guess what?!  Duo del Sol is coming back to the Opera House on the 23rd of October!!!  Really thinking about going.  It'll be shortly after my wedding so we'll see if I'm up for it...  Maybe I'll see you there this time- ha ha!
  • It was my dog's birthday. That's all I got.

This last weekend I watched a lot of OITNB and just kind of hung around the house.

  • J is at his parents for two nights, as his brother and BIL's girlfriend have just flown in from Moncton for a week.  That means I get to laze on the couch, eat as much pasta as I want, and binge watch OITNB (haven't seen any of it, so I watched most of season 1 last night).

  • Not a very exciting weekend for us. We did some yardwork and hung out with our dads on Sunday. Then yesterday I had the worst migraine that ended up making me so sick I couldn't keep anything down. I literally slept the entire day (and entire night last night). I don't often wish I was at work, but I sure did yesterday.
