Local Activities

I am getting married at Buttermilk Falls Inn (across the river from Poughkeepsie) in September.  My fiance and I are not from the area. Does anybody have any suggestions for local guest activities during the day on Saturday?  Thank you!

There are a lot of wineries in that area.
  • I'm in the same boat (but in Bear Mountain) - so please keep the idea's coming!

  • @PamelaMartin2016 there's lots to do at Bear Mountain. I'm not sure what time of year you're going though. In the summer, there's lots of hiking trails and they have a zoo as well. You can rent boats to take out on the lake and I believe you can fish too. I think you can also BBQ on grills they have near picnic benches. In the fall, they host an Octoberfest. In the winter, they have an ice skating rink.
They also have a spa on site. Their Sunday brunch is pretty decent (although not as good as a few years ago).
Driving around that area is also really nice - Perkins, Harriman State Park.

They also sometimes have free concerts in the summer. This website has a list of events.

  • Thank you! Thank you!  It's in November.  I suggested all the mansions and historical building tours.  Theaters (Westchester Broadway) and stuff around the area in case they want to spend a few days somewhere else but not go to the city.   But I will add those things for Bear Mountain too.

  • There's a lot of shopping - Woodbury Commons, Palisades Mall, Shops at Nanuet. All very close to Bear Mountain. New Paltz would be an hour drive, but it's also a very cute town. You could also check any events going on in Nyack as well. Let me know if I can help with any other suggestions! I grew up in Rockland so I'm very familiar with the area.
