I got married in JC but wound up having the reception in North Haledon. Everything I found in the JC area was too pricey for us, too small for our guest list or it was outdated/not that nice-looking. There are some good options available if you want something simple or if you have a lot of money to spend.

    In Jersey City:
Westin Hotel (no NYC view, though)
Michael Anthony's (opened after we booked our hall so I never looked into it - I wish I had, it was right by our church)
    Liberty Science Center ($$$$$)
The Pointe Restaurant (100 people max, they told me - my friend says she loves their food and goes every year for her birthday)
The Embankment Restaurant (I'm going to a small wedding here next month)
Liberty National Golf Club (membership required)
Lowes Jersey Theater (you have to bring in EVERYTHING - tables, chairs, waiters, and there's no on-site kitchen so the caterers have to bring in the cooked food)

Bayonne: I called Bayonne Golf Club but they never got back to me. The Chandelier is a nice catering hall with good food, but it's attached to a diner (albeit with its own entrance so it's not like you have to walk through the diner).

    North Bergen: Waterside

Hoboken: I called Maxwell's when we were planning our wedding and they gave me some good price quotes. It's not a catering hall, though, it's a casual restaurant. But I thought it could've been a cool atmosphere. Parking would've been a nightmare though which is why I didn't pursue it further.

Would you want to do a boat cruise on the Hudson River?

Newark isn't in Hudson County but it's very close. Taste of Portgual is a really good restaurant, and the last time I ate there I saw a wedding reception in the back room. I think Sol Mar in Newark also has a banquet room.

Agreed that a lot of these places are pricier, but I guess that would depend on your guest list size and budget (i.e, our best man spent about the same on his reception at the Hyatt in Jersey City for less than 80 people as we are for a 200 person wedding in Hackensack).

One note about Michael Anthony's - it's on the marina, so you are right on the water, but there are apartment buildings to the left blocking the view of midtown & updtown.  But you get a lovely view of downtown.

There's a new venue called Maritime Parc in JC right next to Liberty House.

We tried to stay in Hoboken/Jersey City b/c we live in the area but ended up getting more bang for our buck in the suburbs. I did a tremendous amount of calling though.

If you're having a smallish reception, I found a lot of restaurants that have private rooms or that will let you rent out the space: Casa Dante, Henry's on Hudson, O'Connell's, Porto Leggero, The Embankment and Puccini's in Jersey City, 3 Forty Grill, Amanda's and Zylo in Hoboken. The Embankment was the only one that would let us rent the whole restaurant for a Saturday evening. The rest we had to do at an off time - like a Sunday afternoon.

Michael Anthony's in Jersey City has a huge private room - they were our second choice. There's Casino in the Park in Jersey City but they kind of pricey for the area. We also looked at Harborside Creative Catering - you actually rent the lobby of a building that has waterfront views of NYC (it's the lobby of Henry's on Hudson).

We also looked at the Maritime Parc. If you have less people you get the top floor which is actually nicer than the 2nd floor. I loved Waterside but was worried we would spend a ton of money on the view and then have bad weather.

If Weehawken isn't too far for you, we looked at Masina's at the Sheraton there - if you are too big for their private room you can use the hotel's ballroom that's just been renovated.

Good Luck! I see you only have one day left. I am thinking of Michael Anthony's but I keep hearing mixed reviews concerning the food.
