Stress Dreams?

I'm assuming this might be fairly common for people planning weddings, but lately I've been having what I have guessed to be stress dreams, even though I don't really feel that stressed. Most are wedding related, some are not. All the wedding related ones involve waking up in my dream on my wedding day, but it's not really my wedding day, it's just...the day after I went to sleep, so nothing else is planned, I don't have my decorations or flowers or dress, but all my family is there, and we're getting ready for the wedding with what we have. In the dream I'm not really freaking out so much as just, like, weirded out by the fact that it wasn't supposed to be my wedding day? I'm not like, "OMG I CAN'T GET MARRIED!" More like, "Welp. I guess we're doing this today, then." So I guess that's good.  Has anyone else had weird wedding dreams during the process? Or am I just a special little snow flake?

Re: Stress Dreams?

  • My negative wedding dreams stopped once I made a no planning, discussing, or even thinking about the wedding in bed policy.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

My planning has not been stressful and I've been having dreams on and off the last 4-5 months.

I don't remember most of them; it's more the "impression" of feeling I'd had a wedding related dream.

All I remember about the last one was that my fiance was still himself but he had a Filipino family...

ETF: typo; Freudian slip?! Bad omen?! Ha ha!
  • I had a bunch of dreams like that in which I didn't have a dress and I was simultaneously soooo happy to marry FI but sooooo disappointed to just have to wear my pajamas for it. Those stopped after I bought my dress, but now I've had a similar one about buying pies from a diner last-minute because there's no cake. I guess I don't prioritize the cake as high as the dress since that dream wasn't all that stressful.

  • I think I only had one wedding dream while we were engaged, but I've been having them for a friend of mine who is getting married next month.

I remember one dream I had several years ago, before I was even in a relationship.  It was the day of my wedding and I was really laid back about the whole thing.  My parents house was about three blocks away from the church, but there was no water for some reason, so I had to go brush my teeth at the ice cream store across the street from the church.  No big deal, just in my sweat pants with my hair done and a veil on.

Then we get to the actual ceremony part, and someone realizes that - hey, there's no groom.  Not that the groom wasn't there, but that I actually didn't have a groom.  And I just shrugged like it was no biggie.  Someone'll show up.

    That's fantastic! Lol.

mine were similar to yours, kind of like hmmm guess we are getting married today and will make do with what we have.  I had them for the month or maybe 2 leading up to the wedding. I'm not a great sleeper to begin with and I slept terribly those last couple of months.

Yeah, I'm not getting married until April...It's going to be a long, dreamy 8 months.

  • I started a thread a few months ago exactly on this topic because I was having some crazy-ass wedding dreams. The one that I kept having over and over again was that I would go to a dress fitting and find that they had done something crazy to my dress - usually dye it a strange color (like pink or black), or hem the skirt reaaaallllly short.

Oddly enough I don't think I was a very stressed out bride, and I certainly wasn't stressed out about my dress (that was one of the things I didn't really care much about), so I didn't know what to make of the dreams other than just as a sign that wedding was on my mind.

I also had the "it's wedding time and nothing is ready but oh what the heck let's just do this anyway" type of dream.
  • Yep. I had a bunch of crazy wedding-related nightmares. Some were really intense and upsetting but most were just kind of like "meh, that sucks." It's normal for me to have a lot of nightmares so I didn't think much of it, but at the same time it sucked to wake up thinking things were going horribly wrong. I even had wedding nightmares for a few weeks after the wedding, but they seem to have stopped now (2 months afterwards).

And I didn't even find wedding planning itself to be stressful. The only stressful part was dealing with my family.

I've seen a few threads over the past several months about this topic, so I don't think it's a rare thing.
