Re: Balloon Man

  • Oh the Stampede.  So glad I'm moving back to cowboy country
**The OMH formerly known as jsangel1018**
  • Just like to point out that he was from Calgary and the rest of us are not that stupid.  He was well prepared though, with a parachute and supplementary oxygen

  • He may have been well prepared, but I think he was really irresponsible.  That set of balloons and lawnchair are still floating around up there, it won't be visible to radar, and could potentially cause issues with the planes flying in and out of Calgary.  He should have come up with a way to bring it down.  Thankful that he was arrested for that asinine stunt.
  • @WinstonsGirl did he get high enough to USE the parachute?
  • Ya know when you see odd warnings in odd places and you think "why the hell does that need to be there? who would do that??"

    This guy. That's why.

The movie Up is now going to say "Please don't float away with a giant cloud of balloons"

Yup, I think so.  He just landed in the wrong spot than originally planned.  They found the chair and oxygen outside of the city by a highway apparently.  He claimed that at one point he looked down and there was a WestJet flight under him, but pretty sure it was landing/taking off cos I think the cold would have killed him if it was a cruising altitude.  Getting hit by an airplane would have given him an automatic Darwin Award I think

    1. I LOVE the Darwin Awards (have you read the books?!)
    2. I think he used the parachute to land but it said he had severe ankle injuries so I'm guessing the landing didn't go so well.

Just like all fireworks are now going to come with a "Do not set this off on top of your head" warning.

Yeah my mom and I were looking at xmas decorations one year and the lights had a stupid warning like "don't put these in your mouth" or something. My mom was like "Ha! That's so stupid! Why would they put that on there?" And I said, "because someone has done it."

  • Nice.

Yea, I'm way more likely to hire a cleaning company that conducts themselves in a super risky manner and litters... /*sarcasm

Yea this totally freaked me out as my FI is a pilot who often flies in and out of Calgary. It bothers me so much that people don't think about the safety of other people.

  • When my mom told me about this I did not believe it. I figured it was just a fake article on Facebook (she tends to fall for those...). Seriously, how is anyone that stupid!?
