What are the guys wearing?

What are your guys wearing? Fiancee, groomsmen, and dads?

My wedding colors are midnight blue with pops of coral. I love how my fiancee looks in charcoal, so that was my original idea. But I don't want him to exactly match the groomsmen and I really don't want the dads to wear exactly what the groomsmen are wearing (or match each other) - I think it looks weird. But my fiancee thinks the dads and the groomsmen should match... thoughts???

Re: What are the guys wearing?

  • Have your fiancee wear a charcoal suit and the rest of the guys wear black...depending on the color of your girls' dresses you can match the vests/ties/etc. to the girls' dresses
  • So my fiance, dads, and groomsmen are all wearing the same tux. The groomsmen have a green vest and green tie to match the bridesmaids. My fiance is wearing a white vest and green tie to make him stand apart a little bit. The dads are wearing black vest with black tie so that they look classy next to moms. My colors are green and black and white so it all fits with the theme but they all look slightly different.

  • That is helpful - thank you!
  • Our groomsmen are wearing charcoal and my fiancé is wearing lighter grey and our dads are wearing black.

  • Thanks!

Are your dad's matching (each other)? Or did you just tell them to wear black and let them pick out the details?
  • My FI and the GMs are wearing navy.  FI works in custom menswear/suiting so the guys' attire is something he is super pumped on and involved in.  He's wearing a slim shawl-collar navy tuxedo and the guys are wearing slim navy suits.  Not sure about the dads yet, but we'll probably just tell them to wear something they already own if they already have a suit they like and feel comfortable in, regardless of color.

OP, I don't think the dads and the GMs need to match (nor do the dads need to match each other).  I know it seems different for guys, but I feel like making sure the dads match the GMs is almost like wanting the moms to match the BMs.  Love the charcoal for your FI and maybe you can find a way to differentiate him slightly from the GMs.  I say ask the dads their opinions on what they want to wear.  Good luck!

  • Its a whole situation. I believe the Dad's are wearing tuxedos, are wedding is black tie preferred (before you all jump down my throat, read on) because my Fiance is INSISTING on wearing a grey three piece suit. will not budge, or even consider a grey tuxedo. I told him he cannot be the least formal of the WP so the GM are wearing Dark grey suits. I know its unusual to have black tie without groom in black tie, but he told me that if I want to dress how I want and feel beautiful, then he should be afforded that same feeling when he gets dressed that morning. And I agree with him. So short answer, I think both Dad's will be wearing black tuxedos, not necessarily matching completely.

My dad-I'm trying to get him to rent the same as his dad but at this moment in time I don't even know if he will be there (family drama)

  • I haven't totally decided, but we'll be working around my girls all wearing black dresses.  The groom wants to wear a grey or charcoal suit and have all of his GM wear black, which I think will go pretty well.  Still working out the details of the accents/accessories!
  • Mine hasn't even picked his out yet.. Is that bad? When are the guys supposed to do this? lol. He is probably going to go soon, but he wants to go with just he and his best man (aka not with me) which, I must admit, makes me a little nervous! He is going to bring a bridesmaids dress with him to make sure that they don't clash but otherwise I'm letting him do his thing!! haha. Trying to be laid back about this...

Our attire is a bit different since we're doing a Halloween costume affair but our men have picked sweet costumes that I just have to share.  The ushers and groomsmen are all incorporating the tuxedo t-shirt into their attire on top of ... or underneath in some cases ... their costumes.

    Groom - Freddy Kruger
Best Man - Stone Man (My MOH is coming as Medusa and he wanted to be one of her victims, lol)
Groomsman 1 - Merl Dixon from The Walking Dead
    Groomsman 2 - Ghostbuster
Groomsman 3 - The Ultimate Warrior
    Usher 1 - Skeleton
    Usher 2 - Scrooge McDuck
    Usher 3 - Batman
    FOG - Confederate General
FOB - It's a huge secret surprise.  He's thrown out all sorts of ideas ranging from The Phantom of the Opera, to Harry Potter, to Darryl Dixon from Walking Dead, to Clint Eastwood.  We won't know for sure until he walks out of his bedroom the day of but ... that's Dad!

  • My colors are blush, champagne and ivory.

I'm wearing an ivory and champagne dress and the bridesmaids will be in blush dresses. the groom will be in all ivory except black plants and shoes. The groomsmen will be in black tuxs.

  • My colors are charcoal and turquoise, the first picture is what my FI is wearing the second is what the groomsmen are wearing, my dad is wearing a solid grey tie.

  • Our men will be wearing darker gray suits with navy ties, and FI will be wearing a navy suit and tie. Inspired by the picture below.
  • We're keeping it easy and simple for the guys. We're allowing them the option to rent or buy, and they will be in a simple charcoal two-piece suit with a black tie. FI will be in a light grey 3-piece suit with a black tie.

  • So we totally haven't picked our groomsmen suits yet... is that bad? How long does that process usually take? Our men are coming from all over the place, so we figured a chain like Men's Warehouse would be easiest to coordinate.

we are going through Mens Warehouse, they said it could take two months to get suits in.. they wanted everyone sized by the end of March... but yes they can go to any Men's Warehouse and know what to get but you do have to pick it out and get them all in to get measured.

  • @rusticbride27 It depends on where you go, we went to a local place, many of our groomsmen are from out of town but they are able to get sized anywhere and send in the measurements, they have been wonderful with us, we went in, picked out everything we wanted in like a half hour and then because FI and I are trying to lose a few extra pounds before the wedding, we are telling everyone they NEED to have their measurements in a month before the date, but our saleswoman said two weeks before is plenty of time....so I guess it really just depends on where you go!
