Shower Thank You Cards

I think I know the answer to this already but I want to make sure.  My sister is mailing out my shower invites tomorrow.  I was going to run to Target and pick up the Thank You cards to have on hand.  Now if someone sends me a gift to the house prior to the shower is it ok to open it to see who it is from and then send a thank you card right away.  Or do I wait til the day of the shower to open those gifts also (at home) and then send thank you after shower.  I think it is etiquette to send once gift arives no matter when the shower is but I just want confirmation.  Sorry for being so all over the pace

Re: Shower Thank You Cards

  • Open and send right away.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

You're right.  Open, see who it's from, make sure it's not broken, send a TY card.
  • You are correct, you can open when it arrives & send thank you card right away. The plus to do doing it that way, you've let the person know you've received the item and that is one less card you will have to write after the shower.
  • Open and send right away.  Same goes for wedding gifts that arrive before the wedding from guests who may not be able to make it to the event and still chose to send a gift.  The sooner the thank-you's go out the better.
  • Perfect!  Then I will head to target this weekend and grab those thank you cards and a pile of stamps to be all prepared.  Thank you for clearing that up for me.
  • Ditto!

Also, it's great to have those TY cards ready to go because you may start receiving wedding gifts and you should do the same.   Send the TY note as soon as you get it.
