Facebook Wedding Groups

OK is it just me or are Facebook wedding groups full of SSs?  I'm in a couple of groups for buy/sell/trade purposes and a girl asks "What's a nice way to put in my invitation that we don't want any gifts for our wedding, but want cash for our honeymoon".  I told her, nicely, that there isn't a nice way to do that as it's against etiquette, and gave her the usual suggestions (let people know when they ask that they aren't registered anywhere and they're saving up for a honeymoon, or mention something on their website, or whatever).  I've got these SSs all over me now telling me she can do whatever she wants, it's her wedding, etiquette rules don't apply these days etc etc.  There's also girls giving cute poem ideas and someone suggesting a money tree and honeyfunds.

UGH.

Anybody else encountered this?

The only facebook "wedding" group I'm in is with several badasses from here so no, I have not encountered that.

I was going to ask you why you're in these, but then I remembered that reading is important.

As much as you should try to fight the good fight, sometimes it's not worth it.

Mine are mostly buy/sell but there have been a few SS posts where I'm the unpopular opinion.
  • UGH wedding facebook groups attract some serious SSs. I posted a thread about them a few weeks ago and just.. Ugh. Ugh x 10000.

Plus they all seem to love burlap and rustic stuff.

LOL I'm having burlap table runners  :)  But yeah, anything burlap and lace on those sites gets snatched up in like 2 seconds.  My mom made my runners though, and they're going on top of chocolate brown tablecloths.  NO LACE anywhere except my dress.  They also all love coral and mint colors too.  Usually with the burlap and lace.

  • I stopped participating in the discussion, but I'm noticing it's all the really young girls that think it's OK, and all of us older ladies being like "uh yeah no"

  • Slightly off topic but for some odd reason I thought you were young, like early 20s. Not a bad thing at all, just a weird conclusion I jumped to!

  • I can't even get my local buy/sell/trade group to accept my request to join. Seriously. They keep denying my request. I have no idea why. Perhaps I don't fit their ideal person they like to associate with?

I wish!  :)  Actually not really.  I'm 33, so not that old either, but I'm guessing these girls are in their very early 20s, based on their profile pictures being mirror selfies.

I tried to join a local "yard sale" type one once that had a rule that you had to be friends with someone who was in the group already.  It was in the town where we were renting while our house was being built, so I didn't know anybody, and I had a ton of stuff to sell.  I guess that was their way of preventing spammers?  So weird.

Perhaps? I definitely don't know anyone where I live, I'm terrible at making friends lol. Too bad for them I guess, they don't get to buy my super sweet wine fridge that I'm trying to get rid of

  • Hmm, I didn't know buy/sell/trade FB pages existed! Perhaps I will join one to sell my LACE table runners (no burlap though, so they'll be disappointed).

Or, you know, you could send me some pictures or something. I'm doing lots of lace and absolutely no burlap. lol.

  • I'm in several and it's all over the place. A lot that are getting married at court house and then having "the real" wedding as planned. Also about not having enough chairs. It's crazy

  • Yep. Mine is a freaking blizzard. Worst part is the admin is a wedding planner and she totally validates many of the "it's YOUR day" bs.

The admin told me I didn't know the bride's story or finances when I said how hurt people's feelings would be when some guests got to go through a door to eat a meal with drinking and dancing, while others were sent away after the punch and cake served in the hall.

Another good one was the bride who needed solutions bc the reception time wad cut off the bottom of the invite, but she didn't realize till after they were mailed. And OF COURSE she had a several hour gap! So the other SS told her she could just make an announcement at the ceremony. Yeah, if you want a ton of no-shows at your reception that's an excellent solution...
