We all got a shoutout on OBB!

Not really, but they brought us up! *eyeroll @ entire article*.

The comments were the best part. "And boy have a had some not so nice remarks from Americans because we are asking for cash using a cash poem"

I subscribe to OBB's articles (I like their wedding porn) and follow them on FB (I like their wedding porn, don't judge me!!) and this came up TWICE today so I had give in. Ugh. :p

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. Once upon a time I thought honeyfunds were a good idea and never thought twice about them being rude. I have since learned better. Honestly, I should just unfollow them completely but can't give it up. I remember pouring over their website before I got engaged.

Those comments though!! Zomg. The entitlement cloaked in "just b/c the mainstream thinks it's tacky doesn't mean we won't do it!" *utter facepalm*

I couldn't even read the whole thing.

OF COURSE some gifts are expected.

    GTFO.

I will never understand the entitlement of special snowflake brides. Asking for cash using a cutesy poem? Jesus tap-dancing Christ. Just have a small registry, and people will get the hint.

Did you see the comment about people who had a suggested donation of $125??? Oh, the humanity!!!!

My shower is in 3 weeks.  I haven't peeked at my registry ever; except once when I went to remove something I changed my mind on and nothing was bought at that time.  As of late I'm dying to know but I love surprises too, so I'm not peeking.

    Have fun this weekend!

Yeah I last looked at it last week, to do one last check to make sure nothing was discontinued on it (common with Crate and Barrel).  I got all excited because someone bought stuff off of it, and told FI and he yelled at me for looking haha.

I also got a big box from Crate and Barrel shipped to the house, but I haven't opened it.  I don't know if whatever is inside is wrapped or not.

Was is sent for the shower b/c the person couldn't travel with it, or because they can't attend?  If it's the latter, you should open it and ensure nothing is broken, etc. and get your thank you card written promptly.

I have no idea... the return address on the label says Crate and Barrel.  My mom mentioned my aunt would be buying online from there and having shipped here so I'm thinking it's from her?  She's out of town until the day before the shower though, so I can't ask.  My mom arrives tonight so maybe I'll ask her to look at it.

Really?  Do they promise?  Think they'd be willing to take it one step further and just not bother inviting me?  Because I would LOVE to be NOT invited to that wedding!  It would save me a lot of time and effort feigning interest in their tacky plans and pretending to be disappointed when something unavoidable miraculously comes up forcing me to RSVP no.

"I think that this is a great demonstration that Culture is Not Universal. What is ok where YOU are may not be ok where I am. And that is PERFECTLY FINE. We are not living in a monolithic culture pretty much anywhere (limited exceptions, globally, apply, of course) and it's ok to be like "we've done this in my area/background/family forever. Screw you, Anne Landers!"

Etiquette is really just the collection of social rules expected of a person in any given social situation. No two social situations are completely the same, so etiquette rules can't be universalized as "everyone must do THIS THING or they're RUDE or TACKY or whatever".

I saw this article and first tried to comment on the FB post because it was so bad. Then I deleted my comment and stopped following the OBB. I was also going to post the article here, I figured I wasn't the only person that would find this article ridiculous.

And the money poem is so cute, I totally wouldn't mind giving that special snowflake cash since she was able to come up with such an adorable and clever way of asking for it.

Sadly you probably would have gotten blocked if you made that comment.
