Trying to convince my fiance that an after party is not a good idea...

My fiancé really loves the idea of having an after party for our friends after our reception ends, and I just don't think that it will be worth it. We are getting married on December 27th, so it's two days after Christmas, and it's a Sunday evening. The reception ends at 10pm, and I feel that most people are not going to be up for an after party. It's the holidays so people will already have been partying, and they will all have to go back to work the next morning. Opinions?

  • Well you don't have to host anything if that is what you are concerned about.  You can simply tell people that you and your FI will be at X bar for about an hour or so for one last drink or two if anyone would be interested.  Then leave it up to your guests to choose whether or not they want to go.  This way you don't have to host anything so you won't be out any money if only 2 or 3 people decide to come.

  • Our "after party" was what Maggie described. We planned to go out and told people where we'd be if they cared to join us. If you do that, then it doesn't matter if nobody shows up. I agree with you that most people probably will skip this. Some of your closest friends might make it out, but that's about it. Do YOU even want to go out after, or is this all your fiance?
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I would normally have no interest in going out after a Sunday wedding. I wouldn't even be able to stay until 10:00 if I had to work the next day, but I normally take a few days off work around that time. If I were taking Monday off, I'd be up for going out, assuming anything is open.

These are your friends. Just ask them if they are interested in an after-party.
