Amalfi Coast

Has anyone done the Amalfi coast for their honeymoon?  Did you do it alone or with other parts of Italy?

Thinking 2 weeks in May/June of 2016.

Thanks!

    You called? :)

I just went to the Amalfi Coast in early May for my honeymoon. May is the perfect time to go. Not too hot or too crowded yet. We flew into Naples, which is the closest international airport.

We stayed in Ravello for 5 days (I would highly recommend staying in this town, particularly at Hotel Graal) and did day trips to the town of Amalfi and Midori, which we hiked down to. Positano, the island of Capri (which you can take a ferry to from Naples or from Sorrento, and sometimes also from Amalfi depending on the time of year) and Sorrento are also close by. If I could do it all over, I would have spent a day or two in Sorrento.

From Ravello, we took a cab to Pompeii and spent a day there to see the ruins. Hotel Forum is awesome and it's right across the street from the ruins, plus it's next door to a gelatto shop.

Then we spent our last day and a half in Naples. Since it's a bigger city, there's plenty of museums and restaurants and stuff to check out, plus it's on the coast so there's some scenic views in that area as well.

  • Not on our honeymoon but I went to Naples, Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi in 2008.  Positano is beautiful, quaint and very safe.  The Talented Mr. Ripley was partially filmed there.  I stayed in Positano for four days and then went to Rome.  If you decide to include Rome, the Marozzi bus between Sorrento and Rome is convenient: www.marozzivt.it  The cab drivers and hotels in the area can help you with info on schedule and tickets; they're reasonable.  If you do end up in Positano there are a few awesome shoe stores that make leather sandals and loafer/moccasins by hand.

One of the most memorable and beautiful trips I've ever taken.
