Venue

Hi, I'm trying to decide on a venue we have narowed it to The Balcony and The Champagne Palace if any one can tell me of there experiences r the food it would really help. Thanks in advance!Smile

Re: Venue

  • Hi, can anyone ecomend a good secondline band that's reasonably priced. Their are so many of them would like to hear some of your experiences.

  • You may want to create two different posts to get more responses.

Not sure on the venue, but we used Rebirth for our Second Line and they were amazing, as anticipated.

  • We used the Storyville Stompers and loved them. I've also heard great reviews of Smitty Dee's.

I've been to weddings at both the Champagne Palace and the Balcony. I think they are both fine, but I definitely don't remember what the food tasted like.

I've been to several weddings at the Balcony. The food is always great, but make sure you're not having too large of a wedding. The most recent one I went to there -- there werent enough seats for people to sit and eat, but there were too many tables for a decent sized dance floor.
  • I've been to weddings at both and I think the food at the Balcony is better and has more choices

  • I have been to weddings at both and I like the Balcony's food better. We are actually having our wedding at the Balcony in February 2013.

  • We're having our wedding at The Balcony in about a month and I cannot wait! I'll post a review after, but so far, so good. I love that I don't have to worry about decorating or flowers and all the details associated with that. The Balcony includes everything (open bar, DELICIOUS food, DJ, centerpieces, chair covers, etc.) The people there are fabulous to work with. They know their stuff and have been doing it a while. In fact, my parents got married there 27 years ago. The people are just as nice as ever and they have updated it to be even more beautiful. I do worry about seating, but I've been to quite a few weddings at the Balcony and its never been an issue. My biggest problem right now is so many people we invited are saying they are definitely coming because they love The Balcony (and that's affecting our numbers lol). Good luck!

I went to a wedding for what looked like 200 people at the Balcony within the past year, and I was not impressed. The carving station was good, but the rest of the food was either over or under seasoned, or used sub-par ingredients. The bridal party also received a completely different menu on the balcony. My FI was a GM, and he started eating upstairs and then came downstairs when he realized we were being separated, and he commented about how the food downstairs was awful. The way it was set up also made it incredibly difficult to get food, I constantly felt like I was in someone's way. I also felt like I couldn't get up from my seat, for fear of losing it. The bar was also not good, the drinks weren't mixed well, so we just drank soda. I have no experience with the Champagne Palace.

Thanks a lot this really helps, because this is not what I would want and teh food upstairs is deffinatley diff they told us in our tour.
  • Thanks everyone how do I put a new post to get some more responses?
  • One thing to keep in mind about your Second Line band too is their attire. Some 2nd Line Bands wear street clothes, where are others wear the black pants and white shirts. We are using Dr. Jazz and so far they have been a pleasure to work with!

As for your venues, you should choose the one you love more and then when you go for the tasting you can tell them how you would like your food prepared. We are working with the Coordinator and Chef at our venue to make sure they spice up the food nicely. You can also give feedback on things like how well you want things done, the amounts of sauce on things, etc. When you go to the tasting do not be afraid to tell them that you are not please with the food and you would like to work with them on it to bring it to par. It kinda is wrong that you don't do a food tasting until AFTER you have booked a venue. Undecided

I would not worry about not having enough seats at the balcony if you really love the place. Many weddings in NOLA are designed to be more reception (have fun) type parties rather than your typical new england sit down reception. The only thing I would suggest is to do your dances in the very beginning and then open the dance floor up to all guests. Make sure the keep the bar open too. You can have your DJ announce that the food service, Dance Floor, and Bar are open and that guests are free to mingle, eat, dance, and enjoy cocktails as they wish.

    Best of luck!
