Weekend Fun!

How was everyone's weekend?

I took Friday off and FI came to town so we had a three day weekend together which was awesome! There was a cool art fair going on in the park by the lake that we were able to walk around and just spent the rest of the weekend doing things normal couples do when they actually live in the same state all year which was prefect. We also went to the store he got my ring at and ordered my wedding band! He got sized and we looked at men's rings as well, think we might have found one he likes but he didn't like the price (I'll be buying anyways). It was just a beautiful weekend and I wanted to share and hear about yours!

Re: Weekend Fun!

  • Sounds fun!

DH and I went to the beach for the weekend. We went surf fishing all day Saturday and that night. We had perfect weather too! I didn't get in the water past my knees though, sharks and all. I'd rather be cautious.

  • My weekend was kind of uneventful.     I worked Friday night.  After my shift DH made my favorite meal (filet with mashed potatoes).   Then we had his staff over.  We hung out until the wee hours.  Very unlike us.

Saturday I was a little hungover and very, very, lazy.  I took the dogs to get frozen yogurt, but that was about it.  I was going to go hiking, just never happened.  I did take a kick ass 3 hour nap.  Not sure when the last time I had a nap. It felt good.    Later that night my period started.  And boy did it start with a vengeance.  I guess that explains why I was so tired and lazy.  (I'm pretty irregular my period ranges from 17-40 days.   It's always a surprise).

Sunday was cleaning day.  Wipe down the baseboards, door frames kind of cleaning day.  I made a batch of meatballs.  DH came home early, we had dinner together. He cooked me a cake.  Watched the Princess Bride.  It was a nice day.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

DH also found one he liked at a jeweler (tungsten) for like $400, and I found the exact same ring on amazon for $20!  Tungsten and titanium are not expensive metals and a total rip off at the jewelry stores.

DH was home for the first Saturday / mutual day off since our honeymoon!  We slept in and then did yard work.  SO FUN!  lol  We did get the front bushes mulched though, so that was good... he's been wanting to do that forever and the mulch has even been in the garage since mid-May!

Yesterday I did some house cleaning / chores and then had dinner at my grandparents' house just like every Sunday.  I wanted to get my nails done but ran out of time so hopefully I find the time today.

I also ordered a wifi blu ray player for my office because being without cable has been harder than I thought!  It's not that I really want to watch anything, but it's just so quiet.  Music gets stuck in my head to the point I can't sleep, so that's not really an option.

OH my big deal this weekend was that I figured out how to log into my old audible.com account so I can download the 50 books I never listened to onto my phone finally!!  It really felt like Christmas!!

FI tried on the tungsten rings too but he didn't like them, some of them were only ~180 but he doesn't like how big they feel and how heavy. My ring is yellow gold and he liked the light, thin feel of the gold rings just not the price. I have had to wear gold my whole life because of allergies and I didn't think it was that bad for the band he liked so I'll probably get it for him.

  • Ha, DH wanted the tungsten originally but then wore it for a while and ended up going with a plain white gold band since it was so much lighter!

Plus you can resize gold.  I forget if it was tungsten or something similar but they said either it couldn't be resized or maybe like you can do it once but then it probably won't last.  He went with gold to be safe
  • My hair trial and shower were both on Saturday, both were successful!  My shower was gorgeous thanks to my MOH.  Tea party theme, lots of desserts, and the perfect size (15 guests).  2 people who RSVP'd yes didn't show though, which was a bit annoying.  I heard from both of them later, one is a nurse and had to work the night shift the night before, so that I understood, but the other, a co-worker, "forgot".  Oh well.

This weekend was also the first time anybody from FIs family met anybody from my family, and overall it was successful, so my nerves about that have gone away.

Sunday my mom and I went shopping for her to find something to wear with her dress, and for me for new wedding underwear (I got all crazy and bought beige boyshorts LOL).  I also ended up buying wedding shoes.  I had all these plans to wear my boots, but after my 2nd fitting last week, I decided I hated how the boots looked with the dress.  So I found some new $40 shoes that feel pretty comfy so far.

  • @Jells2dot0 Congratulations!  That is so awesome!

@kvruns Tungsten cannot be resized.  DH had thought about doing tungsten as well, but then we decided that it wasn't the best choice because he's an electrician.  He went with a ceramic & carbon fiber ring, which is non-conductive and he can wear at work. But, it also can't be resized. We decided that we will just buy another matching ring in a new size if needed.  Like others, he liked it in the stores, but it wasn't cheap, then we found the exact same ring on amazon for $40.  If we do ever need a replacement/new size, I don't think we will redo the engraving though... we will probably keep that in just the original band exchanged at our wedding.

DH got the $20 tungsten special from Amazon. He does a lot of house projects and destroys jewelry- when he was married the first time, his gold ring barely survived the 2 year marriage.

We already bought him another in a size up (his new meds make his weight fluctuate a bit) so we have a backup ready if needed. We didn't engrave either.

For fun stuff, we bought a new car. We got a Ford Escape with all sorts of fancy things I've never had on a vehicle before. It's pretty sweet. It's blue so we're thinking of calling it Grover or Sonic. Undecided.

The downside, my car got sideswiped that night. We had plans downtown Saturday night (Lollapalooza!) and didn't want to risk the new car around drunk drivers so we took my older car. No one got hurt but such a pain!

  • it was a long weekend so that always makes for a good weekend. Saturday FI and I went out to one of his coworkers properties and spent the afternoon berry picking. I have enough Saskatoons to make a giant pie now which is awesome for FI because I don't like Saskatoons and he loves them so he's pretty excited for his very own pie that he doesn't have to share. Besides that we spent most of the weekend doing wedding related things. 39 days. Yikes. Got all the favours made up. FI was a crafting machine and I give him fully credit for them. I cut and tied ribbon. He did everything else. We also got started on our seating chart board. Yes it's burlap. Yes there is sticks. Sue me;) It was a nice weekend just the two of us drinking wine and working on wedding things and hanging out. He's gone mid August almost right up to when we leave for the wedding so i really like when we can just chill together.

Oh gosh our seating charts are going to be pretty similar looking :)  We're doing escort cards with name and table number on them, but doing the little clothespins and twine etc.
