The Worst

Last weekend I went to a wedding - it was "black tie".

They gave everyone drink tickets.  One alcoholic, one non-alcoholic.

Everything else was cash.  Everything.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacky.
  • I can't believe pop cost money. Gross.

Even water? Parking? Your steak entree? (Honestly asking, wasn't sure if you only meant beverages.)

Please don't tell me the bride's dress cost 10 grand.

  • It was in a city so I took public transportation.  They did pour water at the tables.  Just drinks were cash, not the food!  Imagine!
  • Thats so awful..

I will be attending a train wreck of a wedding here pretty quick and I imagine it will be a cash bar. I wouldnt be surprised if the bride has a special dinner for herself different from her guests.
  • I want way more details.  Was there anything at this wedding that, if in well-hosted setting, would make sense at a black tie affair?  Like she had a huge designer ballgown, they had elaborate centerpieces, uplighting, a string quartet, 10-piece band, limousines?  Anything?

I honestly can't decide what's worse:  The couple having lots of the above elements but having a cash bar because they put their vision above their guests (and clearly had the money to host them well if they prioritized correctly), or the couple doing the entire thing on a shoestring budget and just deciding to put black tie on the invites because they thought it would be fun and look nice if people dressed up.
