Bathroom Renovations

I was going to have "Bathroom Porn" as the title to go along with all the house porn threads we had a while back, but it just didn't sound right to me.

Anyway. We're in the process of buying a house, and if everything goes through and this ends up being our house, it needs some serious updates. It was built in 1963 and the guest bathroom still has all original tile, wallpaper, fixtures, etc. Yikes! But it's a really big bathroom, which is nice. (It's kind of awesome though, cuz I love mid century modern & vintage stuff so I find it really interesting.)

I'm quite bored. So I thought a thread where we can all post pictures of the most beautiful bathrooms would be fun and maybe help me with some ideas. Annnnnd.... go!

  • I am obsessed with these sinks. And I love floating vanities.

  • Something like this used to be my dream but then I had to clean one and changed my mind

I used to be so dead-set on having a sink like that, until I thought about spitting toothpaste into it and how nasty that would look lol. You'd have to clean that thing like 3 times a day. I think the answer is that I clearly need a maid.

  • Vessel sinks look fun but they're not great to use... they're way too high!  Maybe they wouldn't be so bad for a tall person, but as a shorty, I didn't enjoy using one at all.

  • You could definitely stick with the mid century modern aesthetic and just update it with fresh tiling and fixtures. I love mosaic tiles.

    ---where are the stinking boxes---

LOL it's so true that clean-ability (it's Friday; I am making this a word) results in changed/cancelled dreams. I have always loved those deep pile/shaggy rugs in bathrooms, but then I had one and my vacuum ate it. No more fluffy rugs for me.

I think sinks like this.    Raised ones might look nice, but when you try to clean them it's a bitch.  Everything gets caught around the grout line.   No thank you.

  • I'm going to AW a bit... this is the bathroom from my last flip project.  I thought it turned out pretty good.  I'm anxiously awaiting pics of the next project though... it's a mid century house.

Nope, nope, nope.  I need a place to keep my shit.  Sorry, but I need easy access to TP, tampons, etc.    I need to be able to pull out a drawer to get my makeup, floss or a new toothpaste.

I'm a functionality over fashion person.

Oh and DH is too messy to have open shelving.

  • And yes, undermount sinks FTW, I've got rectangle ones in my house and I love them.  So easy to clean.

This is my favorite sink. Straight lines and easy to clean.

    Probably SIB---------------------------------------------------------------

This is for the guest bathroom, not the master bathroom (but realistically I'm sure we'll choose something with a lot of storage.) Right now there's a HUGE double-sink vanity in there with a bunch of cabinets. But if I remember correctly, it's beige fake marble with pink sinks and gold lights hanging on gold chains.

Guest bathrooms have a way of turning into kid's bathrooms at some point.    Well that is if you are having kids  ;)

It's different for everyone.   I am the one who has cleaning supplies in every bathroom.  I also keep extra TP and even tampons.  I keep towels and even hairdryers for guests.  Under counter space is important me.    If you have a cabinet or closet it's not as important, but still useful.

    nice job.

Although I have to ask.  Is there another sink?  I can't tell if there is one in the back.  I have an irrational irritation to an extra long counter and only 1 sink.  It's like a really big pet peeve of mine.     But if there is another sink counter all is good.

Living in 30 something homes has really made me opinionated.  :p

This is what I hope we can do in our bathroom!

We too have original bathrooms, except ours are from the early 70s.  Thankfully the yellow and powder blue tiles were kept at a minimum and not wall to wall around the bathrooms!

Both our master shower and main bathtub were leaking into the floors below.  We have the main bathtub temporarily fixed and are using that.  We will be buying a new bathtub and shower from Lowes the next time they have a good 0% financing promotion.  I'm hoping for Labor Day, as we also have a 10% off coupon for Lowes that expires mid-Sept.

We will be doing most of the work ourselves and know a plumber who will do the piping as side work for us.  I wish we could do the whole bathrooms now, but that was never in our plans when we bought the house.  The bathrooms were in our 5 year plan for the house.  We just moved our time table up by 4 years!  We are starting with the shower first, then will do the bathtub once the shower is in working order.

  • I love my pink tile bathroom!

Ha yes there is another sink there towards the back on the right, before the toilet room... it basically goes sink/vanity, then the doorway to the master, then another sink vanity.  So not only 2 sinks, but two SEPARATE sinks so you don't even have to share counters.   We have the same separate vanities in our bathroom at home and FI was all about that.

  • This is fun! We just got done with two bathrooms in our house and did the master in our rental (I insisted on a claw foot tub, after moving/installing that my FI told me never again). And here is my dream bathroom for when I win the lottery:
