Should Have Been Great, But it Wasn't

edited August 2015 in Chit Chat
I just ate some pretzel nuggets filled with brownie (brownie batter?).  I love pretzels; I love brownies.  Sweet and salty- yes.  These should have been KICKS ASS, but they were just meh.

What should have been great but wasn't for you?

ETA:  Or conversely, what should have been awful but wasn't?

  • I had those Starburst minis once. I love Starbursts and mini things are fun. But they tasted totally weird. It was like the paper added flavor (even though you take it off the big ones) and the little ones were missing it.

I tried the starburst minis for the same reason.  They weren't bad, but they just didn't taste like starburst. I was disappointed.  They should have just taken regular starburst and cut them smaller, but they processed them differently... I think they added and exterior shell/coating to keep them from sticking without the paper, and it just wasn't the same.

  • Apparently my last paper sucked cos I just got a shitty mark on it.  I'm really starting to hate this class and the way this prof runs it.  I don't think I'd take another one from her.

Sorry for the downer.  DQ Blizzard cupcakes.  Look amazing.  Not that good

  • Pretzel wrapped in anything is usually good!  There is an amish mart near us and they have pretzels wrapped around bacon, egg, & cheese.  It is so F'ing delicious!

The thing that you wouldn't think is good, but is, is a sandwich my H makes.  It has smashed bananas and chocolate peanut butter.  Then its grilled up on the griddle.  You wouldn't think it would be good, but it is!  Its sort of a take on Elvis' favorite sandwich.

  • I can't think of a "should have been great", but recently had a "thought it would be awful".

FI had been bugging me for awhile to make his dad's version of "goulash".  Apparently it's the only thing his dad ever cooked.  So I got the "recipe" from his sister.  Basically it's cooked elbow pasta, ground beef, and the "sauce" is Campbell's tomato soup, and melted velveeta.  I thought it would be absolutely disgusting.  It actually wasn't half bad.  Not something I'd want to eat every day or even as leftovers as it's pretty much a gut bomb, but it was a good dinner for one night.

  • Should have been great: reduced fat peanut butter cups. Good taste yet healthier, right?

Oh so wrong. So much wrong. Reminded me of the infamous gummy bear experience.

  • Didn't think would be good, but was: The first meal DH ever cooked for me.  It was chicken breast, stuffed with cream cheese, and wrapped in bacon.  I like all the ingredients individually, but the combination seemed a bit weird to me.  It was super yummy.  He later modified the recipe to put the bacon mixed in with the cream cheese, then bread the chicken (sometimes in regular breading, sometimes with cheez-it crackers), and dumping a bunch of honey on them.  OMG... super yumminess.

...This literally sounds delicious. What could be gross about bananas, chocolate and peanut butter? Gimme gimme gimme!!!
  • The new biscuits and gravy potato chips from Lays.

I HATE gravy. Like, with a passion. I Hate the taste, the smell, the texture. Even the appearance makes me want to gag.

My boss brought some in to work yesterday and convinced me to do a taste test with her, on the condition that she hold my hair if I throw up.

They were......awesome. Don't really taste like gravy. They had a smokey-pepper taste to them. I ate almost the whole mini bag.

  • I thought this was going to be a thread about butt sex.

Those are my least fave!  We did the whole taste test, and I actually threw away that whole (big) bag.

I liked the Reuben because it tasted like Rye and the Gyro tasted like tzatziki.image

  • I just tried the classic vanilla coffee-mate. The picture of a vanilla cupcake on the bottle got me excited.  It is underwhelming I like French vanilla coffee-mate better. I still want a cupcake  but I can't have one. Damn this "getting fit" shit.
  • I just tried to make brownies for my fiancé using a recipe he has that uses coconut oil. Needless to say, they're going to the trashcan...and I'm going to the store to just get a box mix.

  • We tried a new Chinese takeout place by our house last night. Their eggrolls were very disappointing- soggy on the outside and had a heavy cinnamon flavor. It was so sad.

Starburst minis were a huge disappointment. I got them for a car trip thinking that they would be easier to eat. They all just kind of fused together and tasted odd.

I tried chocolate-covered gummy bears this weekend. I love chocolate and I love gummy bears. Together, disaster. Just not for me.
