black suits and summer?

Or wedding is next June, which seems kinda far out but I'll be making my dress and my bridesmaids dresses. (Okay yah im crazy) which is why I'm trying to figure out attire so early. Our wedding will be 3:30 or 4 outdoors, in a completely shaded garden area. Reception will be in an AC tent (or barn depending on how the renovations go this fall) but i am worried about the time spent outdoors (30 min ceremony, 30-45 pictures).

Fi really wants to wear a black tux. I asked if he might reconsider for the fact it will be quite hot in a black tux, and hot for his groomsmen in black suits. He's not that keen on tan suits, either. What are some other options?

The bridesmaid dresses will be knee length cotton with a circle skirt and petticoat and each girl can decide what she wants the top to look like. I think I'll do light blue or some pastel color ( the fabric i reeeeally love is a light blue with a big rose pattern on it, but i think my girls probably wouldn't like something sooooo feminine lol) i will also have two bridesmen who will be in matching style suits to the groomsman but in the same color as the maids dresses.

So lets say the ladies (and my gents) are in pastel blue what color suits would be best, uhm, suited for the groom/smen?
If the fellas could take the heat would black suits and blue dresses look good together? Would it be tacky if groom is in a tux and the groomsmen wear suit pants and a white shirt?

Suits/Tuxes are hot no matter what color they are, especially in June. I don't think black vs. gray will be much different. Black and blue also look fine together... You should let your FI wear what he wants to wear.

Like PP said, a suit or tux will be hot regardless of which you go with. The only suit that may be less hot is one made of linen (hello wrinkles!) or one made of seersucker, mainly because those are light weight fabrics.

And tuxes really shouldn't be worn before 6pm, but really that rule doesn't hurt anyone so if your FI wants to wear a tux then let him wear a tux. The only thing you need to keep in mind is to have the formality the same throughout. Depending on what the skirts and tops look like they may look less formal next to a tux. So you and your FI need to discuss the level of formality you are wanting in your wedding and pick your attire accordingly.

Yeah, a suit will most likely be hot either way. The only thing that would make a difference would be a lighter fabric in a lighter color.

My H wanted to wear a black tux on our wedding day. And on a day when I was wearing the most expensive, fanciest outfit I'll probably ever wear in my life, I wasn't going to tell him he couldn't wear exactly what he wanted to.

My fiance doesn't want to wear black. We are getting married in a garden next August in Maryland. He wants to a blue suit which I think will work great. He has mentioned being hot during the outdoor ceremony but like everyone is saying he is going to be hot no matter what. lol. Our ceremony is only 30 minutes so hopefully everyone can tough it out! If you groom has his heart set on a black tux then let him.

None of your guests should have to "tough out" a hot ceremony. You never know whose health could be affected by the heat and could end up going to the hospital because of it. Most guests get there 15-30 mintues early, which means they are sitting out there for about 45 minutes to a hour. If you already know its going to be too hot, its time to start looking at alternatives.

What does your dress look like? With the bridesmaids in cotton, I feel like a tux is just way too formal (they're typically eveningwear only). Linen suits would work, or perhaps even button-downs with ties and dress pants/khakis, no jacket, if you're willing to go that casual. In general though, PPs are right that the groom gets to pick what he and his party wear.

Like I said in reply to another post of yours, as someone who lives outside of Baltimore it is hellish hot and humid as all get out in August. 30 minutes is a long ass time to have your guests sit through a ceremony. Not taking into consideration that people will arrive 15-20 minutes ahead of time.

Asking your guests to "tough it out" is not the kind of attitude you should have.

Also, think about your wedding pictures. Do you want everyone of them to capture you, your FI and your wedding covered in sweat? Looking like you just stepped out of the pool? Because that is what you all are going to look like. I went to an outside wedding in August/September time frame and it was 90+ degrees. All the guys sweat through their tan tuxes to the point where the groom looked like he peed himself. Everyone had red, sweaty faces and sweat dripping everywhere.

And as a guest I couldn't pay attention to the ceremony because I was so damn hot that was the only thing I was thinking of. And they had cold water and fans. The only way the cold water was going to help was if I dumped it over my head.

Okay, thankd for all the answers. I wasnt very clear about bridesmaid dresses- they will be 50s style knee length dresses with big ole petticoats, but yes maid out if cotton. My dress will be a tulle and organza ballgown- also not "appropriate" for an outdoor wedding I've been told, but it's what i like.

I really wouldn't mind linen suits if he liked them.. i love linen!! So soft and breezy. I'll probably let him wear a tux and then just let the bridesmaids and groomsmen be a little dressed down from us. Meh. If my biggest faux pas is that our outfits are too formal no biggie, IMO.

Please ask your FI to reconsider a tuxedo in the afternoon. Tuxedos are not supposed to be worn until 6:00 pm. A two piece suit would be a good choice. Then the guys can take the jacket off after the ceremony to party at the reception. They will be much more comfortable, and the look isn't really much different. A two piece suit can be cheaper to buy than a tux rental, and the guys can keep the suits for other occasions. Good suit color choices are charcoal grey, light grey, navy and black. Some suit fabrics are incredibly light.

I really hate the skinny black tie on this model. I choose something in a color that co-ordiinates with your flowers.

I wouldn't put your bridesmen in pale blue suits unless you know they're into unconventional dressing. I'd stick with a normal men's suit color with a shirt and tie combo to match the dresses, if you insist on that. Suits in a pastel color will look horribly dated and tacky, will be very difficult to find, and are highly unlikely to be worn again.

Maybe let your FI wear his tux, and put the groomsmen in a vest/pants combination. You could either change the color/material of the shirt or the color/material of the tie to match the dresses a little better.

One of my bridesmen insists he should wear khaki short shorts, a white shirt, suspenders, blue seersucker jacket, and a bowtie. Lol im like, no on the short shorts but lemme think about it..
The other is pretty laid back, and is actually my man of honor and bestie, so we will probably do what he likes best.
Ive actually considered blue seersucker suits for them tho thats an *extremely* dated look. Lol. But i love seersucker and corduroy, why did it go ouy of style? Itll make a comeback eventually. I mean, everything about my wedding will look dated in photos in 20 years when my child is looking at them. Thats just how it goes, isnt it? Lol

DH also really wanted to wear a tux to our DW wedding in Mexico in May. How could I say no? It's his wedding too! The only thing we told our wedding party, was that they could feel free to change into something more comfortable after the ceremony and pictures. It was really hot, but only a few guests changed after the ceremony, and everyone else stayed pretty cool into the evening.

Are you out of your mind? I lived in Maryland for 33 years. August is miserable! Your poor guests!

This advice is against tradition. The men are supposed to be dressed in the same level of formality. If the groom wears a tux, so do the groomsmen. Wearing half a tuxedo is never proper.

That's definitely something I wasn't aware of, since I've seen it done before (And I know that doesn't mean it's proper!). Good to know!
