Hair Spray

edited August 2015 in Chit Chat
Can anyone recommend a good hair spray that is not "smelly?" I had a hair trial with a friend who volunteered to do my hair. She used some sickly sweet smelling hair spray and I had a headache the rest of the day from it plugging up my sinuses.

I have naturally curly hair but it's thick and heavy so without a little hold, my curls fall by the end of the day. I just don't want a sinus headache from the hair spray.

ETF: typos; it's early...

Re: Hair Spray

  • I use Kenra and really like it. It doesn't feel too heavy or smelly, but it works well. It's a little pricier, but I believe you usually get what you pay for.

  • I've used Garnier Fructis anti-humidity medium hold or something like that, and also Big Sexy Hair hairspray, and had good results with both. Neither of them smell sweet.

I definitely sympathize with the smell thing! Someone in my office kept spraying tons of something... perfume or room spray or something? that was so super sweet it made me really nauseous. Bleh.

  • I  have curly i-will-turn-you-into-frizzy-bunny-right-now kind of hair.  I have great luck with John Freida Anti Frizz some kinda humidity super-hero thing.  It isn't sweet smelling and works well.
  • I use Aussie and am really happy with it,

  • I love Elnett. I guess it's been in Europe for decades (my gramma loved it) but it's here now. It has a scent but it wears off pretty quickly. The best part is that it brushes out of your hair nicely.

  • Kenra is awesome. I also like It's A 10. You really do get what you pay for! They smell great and have the best hold without feeling sticky.

  • Thanks ladies; I'll start with a "sniff test" soon.
  • I use Elnett and Tresseme. If you have a tough time with smells I'd say skip the Elnett, sure the smell wears off after a bit, but the initial smell is AWFUL and I'm not one to get bothered by smell. I think its an average hairspray and can get a similar affect from another...without that smell. Tresseme has been my go-to for years.
