Getting ready outfit

I need ideas of what to wear while getting ready ie(makeup and hair) and I don't like the idea of the white robe everyone wears. Have you seen anything different then the robe?

Re: Getting ready outfit

  • I wore skinny jeans and one of DH's old white button down shirts.  Robes aren't flattering to most people...

  • Clothes? Like, idk, leggings and a shirt?
  • I'm planning on wearing one of my button up plaid shirts and some shorts. Definitely not feeling the robe.

  • I wore my favorite yoga pants and a tank top that I could slip down over my hips rather than pulling it off over my head which would mess up my hair. Also had an old button-up shirt. Don't even remember what my BMs wore. I think some had their PJs on and a couple put on zip-up sweatshirts or something.

  • I wore pajama shorts and a tank top that was easy to pull off over my head without touching my face or hair. Worked great and I stayed cool despite the excitement.

By the way, OP, getting ready is not a big event that you need special attire for. I assume you get up and get ready most days. What do you wear then?

Don't over-think this. It's just borrowing stress you don't need.

  • I wore a button up tank top and jeans with my sparkly Bride hoodie from target. I never did get a photo in that sweatshirt, darn it! I wish I had worn a nicer bra because I had chest airbrushing and it's visible in several photos.

  • Regular jeans and a plaid button-up.
  • Jeans and a button up shirt.  Wear something you'll be comfortable in.

  • Why do people overthink this? I wore a black tank top and grey pajama bottoms.

  • I wore yoga capris and a flannel button up. I think the most important thing is to wear something comfortable and easy to take off so you mess up your hair or rub off your make up.

    Don't over think this!

  • I don't even know what I wore. Probably some sort of yoga/comfy pants and a tank top.

  • Ooo. This is something that I hadn't even thought about yet. I probably would have just borrowed a robe to wear. But I am definitely more feeling the yoga pants and a button up, and now will be very comfortable the morning of. Thanks for sharing this!!

  • I wore jeans, a purple button-down shirt that I already owned.

good question.    Our wedding was OOT and then we left for a 3+ week HM.   I had to pack efficiently. I re-wore my "getting ready outfit" while on my HM.  I also re-wore my RD dress.  ::gasp::

  • My sister didn't think about her outfit ahead of time and we had to cut her tank top off of her!

I brought extra button downs for the people who were getting ready with me, just in case, but they all had their own.

  • I'm getting pictures taken while I get ready, plus I don't really like to just wear whatever when there are people around.

I'll just wear a pair of yoga pants but on top I'm wearing either a tank top that's loose enough that I can slip under me to take it off or a thick robe. Not one of those thin silk ones. It'll be January and I tend to be easily cold.

  • I would wear pajamas or something like that that is comfortable, won't leave indentations on the skin, and can be removed without messing up hair and makeup.

  • Thank you all for your recommendations! I think button up shirt is the way to go. We are doing a elopement ceremony in Sedona,AZ and all of our friends and family want to be in the room while I get ready, so I was trying to find something that looked nice and also will look good in photos. Thanks again

So your friends and family are going to watch you get ready for your wedding but then are what, just going to go home while you go to your ceremony?  That makes zero sense.

  • Yeah, I'm confused now.

  • So all your male relatives, including those of your FI's, are going to watch you get ready?  That's not weird at all.....

As for my "getting ready" outfit, I did buy a new robe... it's black and a jersey material and I paid $20 for it at JC Penney.  Still plan on wearing underwear and some yoga pants under it, to avoid flashing anybody.  My only button downs are flannels, so those are too hot.
