NWR: who is your phone service provider?

I am currently on a plan with my brother and his wife with AT&T. I haven't had any issues except for the price, which isn't that bad. I pay $90/month and never go over my data, minutes, texts, etc...

However, I NEED something cheaper! I was thinking of switching to Ting, which I'm assuming most people have not heard of. My FI doesn't think I should switch to them because he thinks I will not be happy with their service since he has never heard of them. I am more open-minded though, plus Ting estimates my bill will be less than $50/month.

So, who do you have your phone service through? Are you happy with them? Any suggestions?

  • I'm on Sprint, but TBH, it's my stepdad's plan.  I pay $40 for unlimited everything.  FI uses Verizon but I don't think they're any cheaper than $90.

  • AT&T has a prepaid service with lower monthly plans. Unlimited talk, text and data (1.5GB at regular speed then drops to 128k speed after that) starts at $45/mo. If you like AT&T service, using their prepaid would keep you on the same network and service shouldn't suffer. The phones can be expensive though since the purchase isn't subsidized due to not having a contract.

All the major carriers have their own prepaid service that uses their network. My DH used Boost for a while too and liked it, but he gets a phone through his job now.
  • I will definitely look into the prepaid services of AT&T. It will be easier than switching carriers entirely.

My husband had virgin mobile, which I think uses the sprint network. He pays 35 per month and has unlimited data/texting and 300 minutes.

I have Sprint, and I pay 88 dollars a month for unlimited everything, but I am grandfathered in to an old plan (I think).

  • Verizon.  I travel a lot so I would not go to a smaller network.

I think with the prepaid phones from walmart, you can choose which network to be on.

  • I have AT&T and I pay like $70 for more minutes than ill ever use, unlimited data and 200 texts per month (I'm like an old man and don't text much). But I think it's also an older plan. I've seen cheaper plans but AT&T has the best reception where we want to move.

  • Metro. We pay $76 a month for 2 phones unlimited everything.
  • Thanks everyone! I'm going to do some research this weekend
  • I have Verizon and I love it. I rarely have issues with my service. I think they have a pretty good promo going on right now that's less than what you're paying.

  • I have AT&T - 6 gigs a month with rollover data, unlimited talk and 400 minutes (way more than I need but it's the smallest option) for $102 a month. I'm a data fiend so anything less than 6 isn't enough for me and I'd end up paying extra. I'm not really a fan of AT&T but it works. I can't get Sprint or Tmobile where I live because the service area is so crappy - keep that in mind when you're switching.
  • My service with AT&T is touch and go sometimes. I randomly won't have service for a few minutes or text messages just won't send, which can get pretty irritating.

FI and I should probably just get on the same plan though lol

  • I really wanted some cheapy virgin mobil pre-paid crap to save money. But H convinced me that it's basically like a mattress- something that we use for a third of our lives on a daily basis so it's not something to cheap out on and deal with bad service. I gave in and agreed on his verizon plan, I think it's $180 for our 2 lines. But he's right, back when I had t-mobile my messages never sent, I'd lose service all the time on certain backroads, and it's nice to not worry about that anymore. Those other ones like metro-pcs might be ok within a large city but we live near a lot of woods.

  • We have AT&T for $90 a month.  I forget the data plan, but only once this year have we gone over.  Most of the time we are well under.   We get unlimited text and minutes.

DH's company gives us $50 a month towards the bill.  So that helps.  It's not the best service at our home (we have to have a booster), but I've been with them since 2008 after a really bad experience with Sprint.  Verizon is pretty good around here. I think I'm just too lazy to change.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • My phone screen cracked and 3/4 of the screen is blacked out >:(

I will definitely have to replace it.

Maybe it is the phone gods telling me it is time to switch carriers!
