Outdoor Weddings

reception decor help!!!

Sorry for the long post!

I need advice on my reception decor. Our entire wedding is going to be at an outdoor venue in the spring in Arizona and our colors are apple green, medium brown and ivory. The guys' suits are tan and my bridesmaids' dresses are a shimmery tafetta medium brown. I've worked some pink hydrangea into my boquet that is otherwise all green because I feel that our colors are otherwise too plain with the surrounding natural environment being the same colors basically as our attire and decor.

One more thing, is that we already have a theme, which is apples. Some centerpieces are green apples stacked ontop of cake stands, and some will be green and white stock (flowers) in clear vases with sliced apples (similar to how you see limes in vases sometimes) So my first question is, do you agree that our color scheme is too plain and do you think that I should work some more pale-ish pink into the color scheme to liven things up? Also, do you think that if I add lanterns and poms into the mix that I'm confusing the theme when I already have the apple thing going on?

I'm thinking of hanging some ivory paper lanterns along with some apple green and ivory paper poms throughout the space and I may add some pink into the mix if I decide pink is needed. I'm also thinking of doing some sturdier poms on the guestbook and escort card tables with foam balls at the center, which I may do some in pink as well.

I really appreciate any advice! I'm stuck on this one! I don't want to make things too busy, but I feel like the reception needs something!

Here's some pics:

I was already thinking of going poms in these colors, maybe lighter on the brown & a bit darker on the green...

Here's my inspiration for lanterns & poms:

Finally, here's some inspiration for some poms i want to do for the tables. Some of these are pink & I think if I keep them a light color like the ones here, it could be pretty with the other colors.

    I did this.

Also, I say go for it with the lanterns. Our guests loved them and they really pulled the look of the room together.

  • Thanks for the advice & the pics! Your colors are so vibrant! :)

I should also mention to you all that (at least at this point) the tables are just going to have their white table linens and the centerpieces. The chairs are also white. We are trying desperately to keep the budget down & don't feel like we need to spend extra on linens. They won't even have napkins on them since we are doing disposable dinnerware (yikes!- I know!).

I really want everything to turn out beautifully!
  • I am getting married in 9 days and we are also doing everything outside! Our colors are clover green, navy, and orange. I will post pictures after!  I am doing ivory and squash rice paper lanterns to add some ambiance to the tent. I think you should do what ever colors you like. I think the brown, green and ivory will be beautiful
  • I LOVE the idea of pink added to the green/brown/ivory theme.  I would keep it strickly to the flowers though.

I think white/ivory linens are classic, but love the look of them brightened up with either different napkins or table runners.  This site has really cheap table runners - like $4 a piece.  www.efavormart.com. I'd do brown.

With the poms, I'd also stick to brown/white/green.  Personally I'm more of a paper lantern girl, which you can do for cheap.  I'd stick to ivory/white/pale pink if you did those.

To add pink, I'd recommend adding it to your bouquets (as you did) and centerpieces.  think scattered small pink roses in mini-vases or something.  I'm sure your florist would have ideas.

my wedding was also outdoors and our colors were yellow/tan/ivory and I I added pops of coral and green just by having those colors in our bouquets/bouts and centerpieces.  Loved the simple pop :)  (Pics in link below)
  • Thank you again for the advice ladies! I have decided to add some pink hydrangea into just my bouquet. We're all doing silver jewelry & I'm trying to think of other ways to incorporate it into the decor to make it another element, like you've said. We're getting married at The Secret Garden. It's on the north side of South Mountain. They're working on opening a new outdoor only side of the venue & our wedding will be during the daytime.

Also, jesibel, thanks for the link for table runners. I'll definitely have to check that out. & your wedding pics are beautiful!

I have some thinking to do about this lantern/ pom thing. Not sure if I'm doing a combo or just lanterns. I think poms require some prep work at the venue, so maybe just lanterns...
