International Bridesmaids

Hi all!  I live in London and my bridesmaids are in Scotland, Switzerland, New York, Atlanta, and South Carolina.  I'd like for the girls to wear the same color/material, but they can choose the style that suits them best.  Unfortunately, we won't be able to shop together since we won't all be in the same place before the wedding.  I'd thought of doing J Crew dresses, but don't want the girls to have to pay a fortune to have the dresses shipped internationally and then potentially not fit/look good on them since they won't get to try them on beforehand.  David's Bridal has a shop in London and in the US, so it could be an option, but I'm not loving their dresses.  Any other thoughts on places that ship internationally inexpensively, or shops/brands that are more international?  Thanks!!

Have you first asked your bridesmaids what their budget it privately? If not, start there so you have an idea of that will be a fortune for them. After that, I'd just find a color and fabric style you like and let them pick out their own dress. You could mail them a paint chip, or use a pantone color to make sure they all get something of a similar color. That way, you don't have to worry about them being able to travel to a specific shop at all!

  • Asos could be an option (they have local subsidiaries that ship out the various products, similar to Amazon).

Also from experience (I am an American who has been living in Spain for many years), big American department stores such as Nordstorms and Bloomingdales have wedding sections and ship internationally and the cost is not so bad.

I was in a similar situation and my BMs purchased their dresses from Nordstroms.

Since you are not asking them all to wear the exact same dress, I don't see a reason why they would need to be able to shop at the same store as long as they have a sample of the color you have chosen. None of my bridesmaids have purchased their dresses from the same place, I just gave them a general color idea (I went pretty broad...pink-ish) and let them select whatever they want. Most asked for a pic of my dress, and then sent me pics of what they found.

This way your bridesmaids would not have to deal with shipping at all if they were to just go to a local shop and pick something out.

I did not care for the BM dresses at David's either. They all looked very cheap, but still cost over $100.

  • First, ask each BM privately for her budget. Then you can start shopping under the lowest budget.

I know you're dealing with international, but kind of similar, my BMs were all over the country (US). We never went dress shopping together. I just picked a designer, fabric, color and length and told them to order whatever they wanted. We went with Ann Taylor. They have 40% off sales all the time - just sign up for the email coupons.

  • I was in a wedding in June.  The bridesmaids were from everywhere.  Two lived in Asia working in Hong Kong and in Thailand.  Also maids in Europe and in the US.  The bride suggested that they look at Dessy and all of their divisions.  I know I have posted this also, but let me suggest Pearlsplace.com, where they all ordered their dresses.  They can ship all over the world.  Dessy has lots of styles and so many colors.  So all saved money and we were all very pleased, you can check them out on this and other boards.
