The Long Weekend

How was everyone's long weekend? Ours started off awesome! Watched the first football game for our school and they WON, then went to the cabin in the mountains for some R and R with friends, played games, hiked, and fished.

Disaster struck on the drive back to where FI is working, we had 8hrs to go and my car threw a rod, it is currently at a repair shop in the town we broke down in and we had to get a rental to get the rest of the way to where he works (we were also 5hrs from home so no dice going there). Then with about an hour left in the drive I hit a deer in the rental, lucky there was no damage and we both just started laughing because that's just how the day was going. Now I'm looking at an awesome expensive repair bill or buying a new car which I do NOT want to do (haven't had a car payment in 3 years, don't want to start now).

Hope everyone had a fun weekend!

I had a pretty great weekend. It was a big party weekend at my sister's lake "house" and there were seven women packed into one trailer with one bathroom. Sunday night was prom at the trailer park and I wore the prom dress that I wore when I was 15. We had a blast. Prom is much more fun when you don't have to sneak your booze.

This sounds like so much fun! I love the idea of a "Prom" night when you are an adult!

    yikes.

I worked all weekend.  Although only 2 hours on Monday.  Sunday was our anniversary.  We took the bus up to Aspen and did what we call the Aspen 500.   We first stopped by a place for happy hour.  Played some "shut the box".

Then we moved over to another place for some apps.  Now this gets interesting.  As we were there the entire kitchen staff WALKS OUT THE DOOR.  Yep, they quit.   So much for apps.

Then we went on to another place where we had food and drinks with a co-worker and some new club members.

Then we moved on to yet another place  (Nobu's sushi place)  and had even more food and drinks.

Then we were talked into going to a concert, only to be told at the ticket booth they were sold out.   So we just hopped on the bus and came home.

Oddly people keep picking up the tab for us, so it ended up being not too bad cost wise.

Monday was the 2 hours of work and then total lazy time.   Naps, a little cleaning, more naps. It was nice.  DH had to work.

Wow, @lovemesomemonster - that sounds like some crappy car luck!

We took an extra long long weekend (took yesterday off) to drive to H's family's house in Northern WA to go fishing for salmon. Despite rumors that the fishing was good right now, we didn't catch a single salmon. It turns out that there were Native American tribe members from a nearby reservation using gill nets to fish the mouth of the river over the weekend, so no salmon could even make it upstream. On Monday we did some ocean fishing from the beach, and H's cousin in law caught a rock sol and a lingcod, which was then wrapped in bacon and barbecued. It was excellent.

And my 3-day work week is pretty great. Already half way through the week! And football starts TOMORROW!

Mine was okay- hell, anything is better than being at work!

Friday I got of early (woooo hoooo!).  Fiance had to work Saturday and Sunday so I did lots of chores and errands those days including a deep clean on the apartment, which actually extended from Sunday into the morning on Monday.

We went to dinner and for ice cream since it was like 92 on Sunday and Monday we went to FPILs' house to grill and visit and that was fun.  I made sweet cheese pierogi with strawberries and whipped cream on top and they were SO SO good- drool.

Glad this is only a 4 day week- next week is for me too because we're going to get our license that Friday- yay!

I have mixed opinions on my weekend.  My aunt, who I was close with, passed away on Thursday, so that made the weekend rough.  I spend most of Friday in a daze and was very unproductive.

Saturday was a bit better because we had plans.  We went to the zoo with my niece & nephew in the morning.  Then we went on a glider plane ride, which was fun.

Sunday we had a family get-together in honor of my aunt (she didn't want a funeral, so this was basically her memorial service)... and determined that my family sucks (this isn't a new revelation). There were only about 5 people there.  Some had legitimate reasons for not going, but most just didn't bother. Nobody really talked about my aunt, except discussions about what valuable jewelry she had and life insurance policies.  I have one cousin who is a decent and we were both appalled by everyone there.  So, we left and went out to eat with just the two of us, talked for about 5 hours, and remembered my aunt in the way she deserved.

Monday was spent cleaning out my home office/guest bedroom/junk room.  I still had piles of stuff on my desk from planning my wedding a year ago, so it was time for a major cleaning in there. I didn't get it completely done, but made a big dent in it.

Bartender says that every Sunday is a shit show there.  The chef doesn't come in and leaves the kitchen a mess, never has anything prepped and/or doesn't order enough product.  So the cooks walk into a mess. It's always busy.  Pay sucks, they schedule less people.   The sunday guys just got fed up.  The restaurant is a pet project for the owners and they do not seem to care about the chef's attitude.

Spent the weekend sick!  But I did manage to take the dog to his vet appointment on Saturday, and I got all of my escort cards written up, and my table numbers made.  On Sunday I went to Costco and the grocery store, after which I was exhausted so I spent the rest of the afternoon with Miss Fisher on Netflix.  Mom arrived Sunday night.  Monday, we slept in and then went shopping for last minute jewelry and some fabric to use on the dessert table.

    3 more days...

Two car accidents in one trip? OMG!

My weekend was very nice- went to a wedding on Saturday that was very lovely and very traditional. (It had a gap and we were bored out of our minds trying to kill that time, but everything else about the wedding was good.) The groom is a friend of mine from college who is just one of the best people I know, and I'm so happy for him and his wife, who's a sweetheart. Yay, love!

I spent time with my family too, which is always nice and we just relaxed and enjoyed each others' company.

Now I have a crazy work week, a killer headache, and am a bridesmaid in a wedding this weekend. This will close out 9 weddings in 13 months and should be epic. :)

My weekend was pretty good. I had some stomach issues on Friday (oh joy!) so I stayed home from work to rest and ended the day working on wedding decorations. Saturday I went to one of my best friends' dress fittings. Then I made my way over to Target and cleared out all their clear disposable plates and cups for our wedding reception. Sunday was a pretty restful, do nothing kind of day.

Monday I had my hair trial and then got a massage. Then FI and I cleaned the house and played with the dogs. I ended my weekend watching Grey's on Netflix until I could hardly hold my eyes open any more.

I need opinions on my awesome car problems.. my car is probably worth about $5000 in working condition, it is currently stuck almost 300 miles from home and I'm 900 miles from home. It will cost 4430 to get a new engine put into it or we scrap it for 500 and buy a new one.. What would all of you wise knotties do? We have the money for either but have been spoiled with no car payments for the last 4 years so that's a tough one to swallow. I do drive a LOT (this week alone was over 2000 miles).

Buy a new (or new to you used) car! It is so not worth putting that much money into repairs. Especially if you use the money that would have gone towards repairs on a down payment for a new car.

Exactly this.  I drive a lot too, and once my car starts needing a lot of repairs, I get a new one (never brand new, but usually a later model used car).  Remember your time is worth money too, and if it costs almost as much as the car is worth to repair it, it's not worth it.  Interest rates on cars are really low right now too.

Thanks all, I sadly think this is what we will have to do. We were talking about getting a new one in about a year but it looks like we might just have to push that sooner than expected. FIs truck also has 155K miles on it so we had two high mileage vehicles. I have to drive another 800 miles in 3 weeks and most likely more after that so we might just have to cut our losses.. RIP little Ru, you were a great car!

I did about 6 hours of homework on Sunday.  I was so glad Monday was a day off.  I got to try Dragonboat racing, and then I watched the Labour Day classic, which is a big game in the province.  Calgary versus Edmonton and Calgary sucks.  But the best part was a rabbit that got loose on the field.  He kept appearing in random plays.  Here's the best part:
