We can't choose where to go...help!

So my fiance and I want to go somewhere all inclusive and preferably adults only. We want to be lazy and lay on the beach or by the pool but still have the option of going on excursions if we desire (would LOVE to swim with the dolphins or snorkeling). We will be going the first week in August and flying down from Michigan. We will be gone for hopefully a week and our budget is around $5000 but of course less is always a plus. We have narrowed it down to three resorts and I would appreciate any opinions on them or suggestions of others. The resorts are excellence playa mujeres, paradisus playa del carmen la perla, and secrets maroma beach. Who's been to these and loved/couldn't stand them?

    Excellence and Secrets are two of the most popular properties on here. I recommend using the search function to find posts, as there are quite a few of them that could be helpful in your decision.

    We did Secrets Maroma Beach for our honeymoon in June, and are already trying to figure out if we can go back for our first anniversary! We did 7 nights in a preferred club swim out suite with direct flights from NY and it was just over $5000. I cant say enough great things about the resort, it was absolutely amazing! We didn't have one bad meal, the grounds are gorgeous, and the staff is so friendly and cant do enough for you. I would definitely recommend looking into it!!

    With the time period you are looking to go, I would consider looking into travel insurance and what cancellation/reschedule fees are. I mention this because August still runs into Hurricane season. This year was a very mild hurricane season, but it's hard to predict how many will hit & if they will to more to the east coast or into the gulf. With the location a direct hit from a hurricane may be low, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't get the rain or impact travel.
