My DH is currently upstairs making banners for my mom's surprise NYC gathering next month.   (we got these scrolls that will travel easily). 

I know I bitch a lot about him not helping around the house, but it's times like this where I know he really cares.  While my sister found the scrolls, he volenteered to do all the drawling and coloring.  It's all him.   He is pretty talented if I say so myself.  


No it's your turn to AW your SO. 






What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

    H was pretty damn awesome this weekend. We have been wanting to paint our living room for a year now and finally got around to doing it this week, since we knew we were having people over to watch the Bills/Patriots game. I hemmed and hawed about picking a color for three days and finally made a decision on Thursday night. I expected to spend my Friday night helping H prep and paint the first coat, but instead came home to the entire first coat done and H cleaning up. He knows I hate to paint so he just did it all himself. Then the next morning he did the entire second coat by himself and all the clean up. All I had to do was take the tape off and admire his work. I absolutely LOATHE painting and I didn't have to lift a finger this time. I made sure to let everyone know yesterday what an awesome job he did.

    Mine is a repeat from the Gart Brooks post but FI surprised me a couple weeks ago with Stevie Wonder tickets. I was so sad I missed out last time he was here because seeing him live is a bucket list item for me. If only he could get me on stage during a John Legend concert my life would be complete <3.

    You mean, I'm not the only person who sticks their abundant shedding hair on the shower wall to hopefully avoid it clogging up the drain?  Everyone it's been mentioned to thinks that it's a totally weird habit.  But, it saves me from having to clean out a nasty drain as often, so I don't care if it's weird. And I'm the one in our household that has a tenancy to make "art" on the walls with it.

    r One of the Last Comic Standing contestants talked about it this season! FI was dying! I had to explain to him that no matter how hard I try the shower water still doesn't get it off my arm or hand so I stick it and move on!

    Add me to the list of people who stick their hair to the wall. The first time I forgot to wipe it off and throw it in the trash after a shower, H walked in and saw it and flipped out cuz for a second he thought it was some kind of giant bug. 

    And he's also awesome for snaking our tub drain about once a month. I have really thick hair that sheds like crazy and it goes down the drain no matter how hard I try to keep it all on the wall.

    I clean the hair-catcher and call the building engineer to de-clog the drains. Old building with old plumbing so the building guy does that for no charge.

    H knows how much money (or lack thereof) makes me anxious, so he has taken the lead on managing our finances. He got our budget up to date in Quickbooks today, and he took the lead a few weeks ago in working with the bank to take out a personal loan and consolidate our credit card debt (well, mostly debt he accumulated, but it's a move that will ultimately save us $8k in interest). Considering I have always been the more responsible one when it comes to spending - probably because money makes me anxious - I am really proud of his efforts.

    Oh, he is also smoking three racks of baby back ribs today, just because Costco had a good deal on them. I pointed out that one rack would probably suffice for the two of us, but he has a "go big or go home" mentality, so... We'll be eating ribs all week.

    I'm so proud of FI for the way he's handling work right now. His supervisor is an absolutely awful person, and harrasses him about stuff that he has no control over to the point where he's filed a formal complaint and requested multiple transfers, only to have HER supervisor refuse to move forward on any of them and sweep them under the rug with an excuse of 'misaligned optics.' Whatever the fuck that means. And then today, our department sent out an email asking for volunteers to transfer to a new department that was being created, but specifically stating that they would not be accepting volunteers from FI's team. Working for this supervisor has put FI in counseling and on antidepressants, but he's come so far in dealing with it in a healthy way, and is taking the right steps to hopefully have these issues addressed as they should be. Brag number two is that he took me to Charleston this past weekend and planned an awesome trip for us! We had so much fun and got to try some awesome new (to us) restaurants! He also cooked really yummy steak last night, and made enough for us to have plenty of left overs!

    Oh my God I cannot deal with these nasty-ass creepy-crawlies centipedes!!!! I'm glad it's not just me. I seriously have NO problems with 99% of bugs, including enormous spiders, bees, and even ticks. But those little thousand-legged things with the nasty long antennae just give me the heebie-jeebies. Where I went to college they called them Barclay Beasts, named after one of the dorms that had a particularly large infestation. Fortunately one of my cats really likes stalking and eating them. She's my hero. So maybe I should make this into an "AW your fur baby" thread.

    But in the meantime I'll AW my DH, who just surprised me by booking a B&B on the Cape this weekend to celebrate my birthday.

    I am sorry about your hip :(. That is so gosh darn sweet of your FH!  If I am pulling all nighters, H will on the reclining chair next to me even though I continually insist that he sleeps in the bed.

    So I've been off and on with getting my G1 {learners permit for those unfamiliar - or "365" depending on age} I've booked time off and basically chickened out a few times.
    Background: never wanted to get my license. My dad lost his license before I turned 16 and I live in an area where walking isn't an issue.
    My H and I got a car in April 2014, and I actually said "this car makes me want to drive!"
    Next day my dad passed away suddenly, so I went through a lot of personal stuff that caused me to hault a bunch of things.

    Needless to say, a few weeks ago I took a test online to see how I would do and just to see what I'd have to actually study {never read the book} and got 95%
    Pretty confident I'd do well.

    Now .... H has taken the day I plan to go off so he can take me. He wants to be there for support and make sure I go.

    Also ... I've started selling steeped tea {those interested/curious DM me!} and I'm taking a tax course. He's been pretty helpful in trying to make sure I have time for everything and helping out. He's one of my tea samplers :)


    But yes, he's a good man :)

    Cute note: on monday he was picking me up from my course and I was whining how cold I was in my sweater, he meets me and brought his hoodie. Like every other girl, I loooovvvvve his hoodie!!!

    I've been super frustrated with FI because he promised me he would get some yard work done over a month ago and it wasn't done. Well he spent the entire day Wednesday putting in edging, laying down a TON of pea gravel, and putting in our patio area for our rehearsal dinner we are hosting at our house on 10/2. It looks amazing!!! What makes it even more braggable, he found out Tuesday that the job he has been expecting to start in November is probably going to fall through. Now he has no idea what he is going to do and is having basically an existential crisis. Despite feeling like all of his dreams are crushed, he did the yardwork. Secretly I think the endorphins helped him a bit.

    Yesterday, DH dropped me off at the train so I could go to Chicago Gourmet, an amazing food festival, downtown. He drove my car and decided that there was a new squeak. By the time I got home, she was washed, had a full tank of gas, and new brake pads and rotors. It was pretty fabulous.

    (But, because I'm an ungrateful bitch, I wish he would have taken care of some of the chores that he's been promising for the last 5 months.)
