9.26.15 Reviews, Part 2 (Cosmopolitan, Wraparound Terrace Suite, Bell Trans, Travis Allen)

Cosmopolitan (hotel) - C

We held our welcome party in a Wraparound Terrace Suite at the Cosmopolitan. I will review the suite separately. Cosmo is a gorgeous, swanky hotel with tons of great restaurants, Secret Pizza (SO good), and the breathtaking Chandelier Bar. We enjoyed staying there, and overall loved the hotel, but there were a couple negative experiences.

First, we had booked a Wraparound with a premium view, which was an upcharge. When we booked on the phone in March, we were told that meant a room facing the Bellagio fountains between the 50th and 60th floors. When we checked in, the front desk clerk (who was very friendly) asked us our floor preference. We said that we had paid for the premium view between the 50th & 60th. She said that premium view only meant that it faced the fountains but could be on any floor. However, she said that she had two suites that were being cleaned at that moment--one on the 58th and one on the 61st. So we told her we would take either one. She processed our check-in and said that we would receive a text when the room was ready.

Over two hours later, we received the text, and the suite was on the 16th floor--not even close. We went back to the front desk thinking this was a mistake, and another clerk told us that they were full that day, and we were fortunate that we weren't being downgraded out of the suite like some other people had been. He insisted that we still had the premium view and would not refund the extra money we paid for the view.

As it turned out, the view from the suite on the 16th floor was partially (but not majorly) obstructed by the huge Bellagio sign and one side of our terrace was looking flush over the roof of the Jockey Club, which wasn't the prettiest sight. Don't get me wrong, the view was still phenomenal, and our guests were majorly impressed and did not know the difference at all--but I would not consider it to have been a "premium view" worth paying extra for.

The other bad experience we had with hotel management was when one of our guests slipped on water in the casino and badly broke her wrist and arm. Security came up to our suite at our request, said that they would have someone in-house look at it, and that if she needed to go to the hospital, they would provide an ambulance for her. I thought that was very nice; however, that is not how it turned out.

They ended up putting her in a cab to the hospital in a back alley so nobody noticed, and she and her husband were appalled at how they were treated. They said that people were in there rudely snapping pictures of her, her arm, her shoes, etc. and treated them like second class citizens. I did not witness any of this, but they were so upset.

Cosmopolitan Wraparound Terrace Suite - A-

Like I said, despite the lower level, the view from this suite is simply amazing. Everyone was so mesmerized by the fountain shows and all of the lights! The terrace is very large and roomy, and a lot of people fit out there to hang out and take in the sights. We had 40 people in this suite, and it was absolutely fine. We did not feel cramped at all. The side of the terrace facing the Jockey Club barely even got used, and we were still comfortable. However, you need the terrace to be comfortable. I would not try to fit 40 people on a cold day where nobody wanted to go outside. Because of that, I would not have wanted to use the suite for a reception with that many people where you wanted everyone in one space.

Contrary to what I thought, no key access was required to get up to the suite (East Tower). I don't know if this has to do with the fact that we were on a lower level. It was a huge relief that we didn't have to escort every single guest upstairs.

The suite itself was in good condition with fun swanky furniture, but the terrace had seen better days. There was a cigarette hole in one of the outside couches, and the terrace floor and glass was filthy. Luckily, our guests were there after dark and probably didn't notice too much. It also did not seem like the inside was cleaned very well. A couple of the tables had some dirt/residue on them that could have been easily cleaned by housekeeping.

We bought our own booze for this party, and put everything in the bathtub with lots of ice. We bought a couple plastic beverage tubs, which we replenished from the bathtub as the night went on. The bathroom was huge and gorgeous!

Sadly, several people could not figure out how to play music from our iPad/phones through the connectivity panel. I thought we had all of the correct wires, but we just ended up using our JamBox, which I'm so happy we brought as a backup!

Overall, we (and our guests) really enjoyed the suite!

Bell Trans - B

I loved how easy it was to book a 29 passenger vehicle from Bell Trans to take us and our welcome party guests (those who are night owls anyways) to Fremont Street after our welcome party. It was cheap--less than $100 for one hour.

I did run into a little snag with them when I emailed them asking if we could make one 10 minute stop at the marriage license bureau on our way downtown. The bureau is three blocks from our final drop off location, and I knew it wouldn't take us anywhere near our full hour to get downtown. They said yes they could--for another $50. I thought this was ridiculous, so I said no thanks, and my then-fiance planned to take a separate cab to make that stop and just meet our guests at Fremont Street.

Our driver showed up at the Cosmopolitan early and called to let us know he'd be waiting downstairs when we were ready. He was very friendly and professional, and when we asked, said it would be absolutely no problem to make the marriage license bureau stop. We were so grateful that we could still ride with our guests, which was so much fun! They dropped us off and just circled for a few minutes while we got our license, and they all cheered for us when we got back on the vehicle, license in hand. It was a super fun very Vegas-y moment thanks to the driver!

Travis Allen - A+++

Travis as Elvis was absolutely the hit of our entire wedding weekend. We hired him for a half hour to do five songs, and we kept him as a surprise from all of our guests. When he walked in and started singing "Hound Dog," our guests went crazy! They were so shocked and had the best time!!!

He sang "Can't Help Falling in Love" for us to have our first dance, and it was such an incredible special moment. It's now my ring tone on my hubby's phone. :) He concluded with "Viva Las Vegas," to which my guests immediately started a conga line, which was actually a ton of fun. Travis was an excellent performer, extremely professional, and just the nicest guy ever. He sounds and looks so much like Elvis--it's uncanny. After his songs, he stayed around and took pictures with our guests, which were immediately all over Facebook.

Everyone was so excited, and we've got so many compliments. It made our reception all that more unique and fun, which our guests just loved! One of the best decisions we made!

Thanks so much for reviews, and sorry about your less-than-perfect experience at Cosmo. We have the Wrap Around Terrace suite booked for our wedding reception next week and my biggest fear is that we can't get the fountain view (because obviously it's the main reason anyone books that room!!). Happy you think the suite was still worth it though :)

@sasalew - We still had a great fountain view, even from the 16th floor! The issues with being lower were that the Bellagio sign blocked most of the view of Paris, you couldn't see as far down the Strip, and the Jockey Club roof was level with us. However, those were pretty minor issues in the whole scheme of things. The fountain view was spectacular and our guests were majorly impressed! Enjoy--you'll love it!

Thank you for the reviews!  We also booked the same suite with the premium so I am glad for the warning.  We are also having surprise Elvis show up but with Rev. Roland instead of Travis.  I hope our wedding is as much fun as yours was!
