So, what are you doing for Halloween?

So, Halloween!
Looks like I'll be having a scary movie night with a few friends. At work on Friday, I'll be helping judge our annual office decorating and individual costume competitions. I love being a judge because it's fun to see everyone and everything, but I rather hate dressing in costume myself.

Monday, I was walking to the train and two 20-somethings were walking right behind me. "Think they'll let us out early on Friday? That would be so great. Plus, what about parents? Don't they have to be home to help their kids trick-or-treat?" The fact that these two actually thought the 30th of October was worthy of an office closing early is mind-boggling.

So, what are you up to?

Re: So, what are you doing for Halloween?

  • I have a pub crawl on Friday that I'm pretty excited about. Most of the group has kids so we don't have the pub crawl ON Halloween. Saturday I have nothing at all planned (nursing my hangover) and Sunday I have a Bears game. Should be a nice weekend!
Image result for someecard betting someone half your shit youll love them forever
  • I'm going out in DC (hour drive) and staying with my brother who's also having a party. H is not a fan of Halloween or sleeping on pull out couches so he's having a bonfire(firepit) with 2 friends in the driveway and handing out candy.

  • We are going to put a bowl of candy on our porch with a sign that says "Happy Halloween!  Help yourself to a yummy treat!" Cheesy, I know.

Then H and I are going to hunker down on the couch with some Chinese food and Ghost Adventures.

  • I wish our office decorated.  I'm on a floor that is pretty empty and there isn't much going on around here.

Friday night one of our friends is hosting her annual pumpkin carving party.  On Saturday, we're going to an afternoon Ghostbusters quote-along with friends then heading to their house for dinner & to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters.  The neighborhood I'm in doesn't have families with kids (I've lived there for 9 years and have never had a trick-or-treater).

I've been crazy excited about the quote-along, though.  These events are always a blast.
  • Nothing that I know of.   It's off-season here.  Pretty all of our non-parent friends have left for vacation today.  A few others leave in the next few days. We are selves are leaving the next day. I'm guess just finishing getting ready to go.  We are not scary movie people.

I'm not sure we get trick or treaters.  The main door is on up a full flight of stairs.  I think the kids go to the neighborhood next to us.  It's a richer neighborhood with no stairs.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We're having a party! Nothing too crazy, just having a bunch of friends over in costumes for some good food, good drinks, and possibly some games or a bonfire.

One of my friends sent me a recipe for Caramel Apple Sangria that looks really easy and yummy, so I will definitely be making that!!

  • @thefanciestbeckler we're having a party as well! Nothing crazy - just a handle of friends for lots of snack foods, drinks, and games. None of us want to fight the bars that night so we're doing our own thing that night.

  • My work usually dresses up so I'll dress up and then we might go to a run where you're supposed to dress up. Saturday we will pass out candy, that's about it.  I realized I haven't been invited to a Halloween party in years, kind of sad. Then again H doesn't like dressing up or anything like that so maybe it is better that way.
  • @cupcait927 you guys sound like us! Sometimes DH and I don't mind fighting the crowds, but this time around we are doing our own thing.

@kvruns if you feel like a trip to TN, you're welcome to come to our party! :)

  • thefanciestbeckler can you share the recipe? That sounds delicious and definitely something I would take to my friend's place on Saturday.

@kvruns my sister just did a half marathon where most everyone dressed up. She and two friends were Thing 1, Thing 2, and Thing 3. Apparently when she crossed the finish line she high-fived a teenage mutant ninja turtle. LOL.

    DO share!!

Most likely finishing making the wagon in to Thomas the Train on Friday

Saturday, H has a UC football game to go to, in our neighborhood we are on the border with Indiana so they come to our neighborhood to Trick or Treat, plus the whole neighborhood gets really into it, one guy makes his garage in to a haunted house, even though when I have gone we don't get to experience it because they yell in "got a little one!". H will pass out candy while the neighbor and I take the kids around the neighborhood. Since my son is 5 and EVERY house passes out candy in the neighborhood we only go around on our street, so when I am done we will hang out with H and pass out candy in the drive way.

Sunday is fall get barn ready for winter day, so flatten stalls :( take home liquids, clean saddles, wash blankets (AKA piss off a laundromat). Then my cousin has a baby shower I am going to..

  • I'm going to be in a Haunted House. My part is usually as someone getting eaten by a zombie and begging for help. It's fun.

  • We don't celebrate Halloween. Neither of us did growing up and don't see any reason to start now. And I'm just not a fan of the holiday in general.

However, because I'm a journalist I'll be taking Halloween photos on Friday and Saturday and writing an article.

We may be going over to a friend's house for a game night. Just because though, not because it's Halloween.

I'm going to be a Ninja Turtle!  I was a big TMNT fan when I was a kid and am glad they've made a comeback. no sexy nurse/cat/whatever for me
  • @thefanciestbeckler I was going to make spiked hot cocoa in the crockpot but I've changed my mind and I'm going to make that sangria instead. It looks so yummy!
  • I'm staying as far away from town as possible.  I live in a pretty popular Halloween destination and with it being a Saturday this year, it's going to be an absolute mob scene.

Though it sounds like we'll be taking a loop around to see the doings with some friends before sequestering ourselves away for the rest of the night.

That's pretty awesome. We don't have any headless people. They went with a pretty generic "scary movie" theme, involving different horror movie themes. I'd have done it differently, personally.

@lovesclimbing -- I know those feels as far as taking pictures and writing an article instead of doing something else. So many people always assumed I must have had a blast when I went to events, without realizing it meant I was "on" the entire time, and still had hours of work to do after.

  • Just staying home with the little guy and passing out candy. Nothing crazy.

  • Passing out candy, and then going to see our niece and nephew.  I'm more excited from Friday though, since it's Halloween at work.  I'm going as Effie Trinket from the first reaping ceremony in the Hunger Games.  I was sewing it up all summer, so I'm pretty excited to put it together and see the final product.

I know! I've come home and cried after events before because there's all these couples and families having fun (doesn't help that I've kind of had baby fever lately) and here I am by myself working this cool event. These Halloween events won't be too bad though because I'm not into the holiday and wouldn't go if I didn't have to for work.
  • I am going to a costume party. Ih ave been searching for an easy and cheap costume that someone without a lot of crafty skills can make. I decided to be sushi for Halloween. I think I might be able to pull it off.
  • FI and I went to a party last weekend and we were Jake from State Farm and the woman on the phone (pajamas- best costume ever).

Saturday were going to pass out candy at my best friends home since she gets tons of kids and the three of us are going to be Laverne &Shirley and Lenny and go out after.

I made this sangria a couple of weeks ago and it is amazing.  Gee, my plans for Halloween are going trick or treating with the g'kids - weather report says 49 degrees, rain, windy.  Maybe if Nana shows up with a boatload of candy the 8 yo will be good with it.  The older kids wont' go out in that for candy.  The 8 yo?  Well, she has big plans for a major haul but she hates being cold and wet.  DD and I are hoping she calls it a night early.
  • I have to work tomorrow night for a Halloween event for work. It kind of sucks because we usually go to a party that our friends family has and it's usually a blast. But DH is working this weekend anyways.

Saturday night we're going to FSIL and having a fish fry and helping them pass out candy. They live in a neighborhood and Halloween is a  big deal, they've decorated their yard and everything.

I think I'm going to dress up as "A" from PLL and just wear a black hoodie. LOL, lazy.

randomslove it is hard to find horses that will deal with all that is going on in the haunted houses, and not go BSC.. Mine is the definition of bombproof, except for a kitten playing with a leaf in the corner of the indoor arena the other night, that is apparently terrifying..
