Work costumes?

Did you dress up at work? Were you "encouraged" too? What are you?

I'm a teacher, and we were "encouraged". Your team is supposed to have a theme. I'm not a big Halloween person, so it's a chore for me. My team was crayons this year, so it was easy enough.

Some groups go all out..I'm talking full on body paint (gold sports trophies). They look great, and the kids love it. Another group dressed up as the Inside Out characters.

At my previous school, costumes weren't allowed. While I do like the fun of this, I could do without the dressing up too.

Re: Work costumes?

  • I work in a corporate office so the most costume-y people get is a Halloween sweater (almost as amazing as ugly Xmas sweaters) or black cat earrings or something.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and we go all out with decorations and candy at our house. But the most I do at work is put out a bowl of candy in my office.

  • It's such an interesting holiday to me.. To see who's into it, who's not, and who's in between.

There are a couple folks dressed up today, but we have a party at our brewery tonight after work so I think people really go all out there. I've been here for three Halloweens and this is my first time going.... I'm really not a big Halloween person, but I've become friendly with people at work and it's something for H and I to do tonight. I bought us pajamas and we're going to be skeletons... it's easy, classic, and we can wear the PJs around the house. I just can't ever get over spending $100+ dollars on a costume and never wearing it again.

I also hate looking for costumes because all of the women's one's are "sexy"... it was SO hard for me to find a skeleton costume because all of them were skin tight catsuits!
  • I wish we were allowed to!! I work at a bank, so naturally no fun is allowed... All joking aside though, they won't let employees or any of our customers wear costumes inside the bank for security purposes (robberies, shootings, etc). Kinda sucks, but I do understand it.

  • Hopefully this picture works. This is my first job where people dress up, though this year there are fewer than normal. We also go cube or treating and trick or treat at each other's desks. A lot of people do baked goods instead of candy.

  • We're not allowed to dress up for Halloween, however, we do have decorations throughout the firehouse and on the grounds. We also have a mountain of candy (and non-candy goodies for those who can't have it) that we will pass out tomorrow night, and we always make goodie bags for kids who are in the hospital and deliver them before trick or treating begins. Delivering the candy is the only time we can dress up, and ONLY if we're doing it on our own time.

  • I work in an office environment and my company had its annual costume contest/Halloween party yesterday. A lot of people dress up.

A group dressed up as the Inside Out cast as well! it was really great, but they painted their faces and I felt so bad for them. They did win the best group costume!

There always seems to be a few female interns that dress a little scandalous for the office.

I always try to dress up as something humorous, this year I was a sick cat. I wore all black, then added cat ears, tail, and furry paws. Then topped it all off with a plastic cone from the pet store.
  • We talked about it, but decided not to.  I work at a title company and the last day of the month is always our busiest.  I did notice we all ended up wearing black though, so we were joking we should have worn witches hats or something like that.

I love dressing up! I work in a corporate office but being in sales we have a pumpkin carving contest and costume contest every year. Two years ago I won and got a "free day off work", it was completely worth walking through the doors like the below picture.

  • I work in an office, so my first few years here I actually dressed up like other co-workers.  Since I could wear normal clothes.  I did wear wigs with the outfits, but they were at least naturally colored wigs.

H was encouraged to dress up this year.  I was going to make him a Q-tip outfit with cotton balls, a ski cap, and coverings for his shoes, but he declined.  He's just not that big into Halloween.  I read someone on this board had her H go as Jake from State Farm.  So I told him to do that, since it's easy enough - he has all the proper clothes already.  His red polo shirt was in the dryer this morning, but wrinkled.  So he put the dryer back on, but came back upstairs frantically 5 minutes later because his shirt was "still wrinkly".  When I went downstairs and saw it, it looked fine to me.  I think he's just a Halloween party pooper.

Mine is a Halloween party pooper too. I really wanted to go to a Halloween fun run tonight and he didn't want to go if he had to dress up. I told him he already has a Hulk running shirt in his closet that he wears so he could wear that, I'm not asking for a lot here bud.

In the public school where I used to teach, Halloween celebrations were not allowed.  There were too many parents who belonged to churches who taught some rather odd ideas about the holiday (I'm not talking about Jehovah's Witnesses, here.) and they  objected.  Sad and misinformed.  I actually had one poor child who insisted that Halloween was Satan's birthday!  Whaaat?
I taught music.  I had one of those parents complain at the PTA meeting that I was teaching Satanism in my classroom.  This was because we studied "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" by Dukas, a well known piece of classical music that was enhanced by the Disney Studios with Mickey Mouse as the apprentice!  She got nowhere with her complaint.  That poor child!
I am looking forward to passing out candy to the children in our neighborhood tomorrow night.  It is supposed to be clear skies, so DH will set up his huge telescope again for parents and kids to look at Saturn.

Oh man, my office is hard-core. Different departments decorate their areas, have themes, and act out scenes. I was a judge of our decorating competition. No pics because I don't have permission, but the winning department decorated like Gotham City with all the villains. The second place department decorated like the jail from Orange is the New Black and various women acted out various personalities on the show.

Dressing up totally isn't my thing but I'm endlessly entertained by those that do dress up!

  • It's not either encouraged or discouraged. It's pretty casual so I certainly could. I have no desire to though.
  • I'm at a school, so totally dressed up.  I went as Effie Trinket from the Hunger Games.  I'd call it a success as I freaked out a couple of kids with a reaping ceremony.  And a few staff members didn't even recognize me.  One thought I was a new supply teacher until I spoke.  It was pretty awesome.

  • I work at a psych hospital, but we were encouraged to dress up. We try and participate as much as feasible in holidays to keep a since of normalcy, especially for the kids. I dressed up as rosie the riveter, it was the perfect costume because I could still react if I needed to. One of the other counselors dressed up as a peg bundy type (with looser fitting clothing) and a few nurses dressed up, I saw a ballerina and someone who wore pjs.

  • We are only allowed to dress up when it is homecoming week, but my work pals and I all wore batman t shirts yesterday.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

One of my coworkers dressed up her (very adorably pudgy) baby as Rosie the Riveter. I wish I could share the photo because I just about died looking at her. Of all my friends posting pictures of their kids in costume, little Rosie just won the internet.

LOL that was us.  FI wore his "costume" to work today; less the state farm name tag!

The last day of the month is always madness at my work so they don't encourage dressing up, at least at my branch.  The sales support staff and myself do ugly Christmas sweaters for that luncheon though in lieu of Halloween.
