Clarisonic

Ok, so I feel like we've had this discussion before, but I'm too lazy to search and would prefer some updated info.  I'm thinking of getting one cos I have been breaking out like crazy lately.  Who has one?  Which one?  I've heard you don't need all of the settings, that sensitive is good enough, and that lots of people don't use it daily.  What's your plan??  Christmas is coming and I need something good on my list.

Re: Clarisonic

  • I have one and like it, but I don't think they are as amazing as people make them out to be. It depends on your skin concerns. My sisters dermatologist said Clarisonics aren't good for breakouts, but it works wonders on my skin because I get dry patches and flakes.

Definitely don't use it daily and DEFINITELY don't use it twice a day like the instructions suggest. A few times a week is fine.

  • Oh, I should add that if you are having breakouts, Aztec Healing Clay (bentonite clay) face mask is amazing and works wonders on breakouts. I can't recommend it enough.

  • I only get breakouts every few months or so, but they drive me nuts.  And I like the feel of my skin after I scrub it in the shower with my body cloth.  But I only do that once a week or so.  I've got combination skin, and I can feel when it needs exfoliation

  • I have one and use it once a day (I just take it into the shower with me). I don't have break outs. I tend to have dry skin. I do like the way my skin feels since I've been using it. Full disclosure: I am an "more mature" person (read older than 50) but have always had good skin.
  • My old roommate got a clarisonic one year and she really enjoyed it, I was thinking of getting one (and saving up Ulta points for one) but then decided I'd rather get the Foreo brand one. I've heard that the bristles in the clarisonic can harbor bacteria and they have to be replaced, and I'm too lazy to keep up with that. I haven't gotten it yet, waiting until next month when It's my birthday so I can go crazy and get extra points.

  • I think it depends a lot on why you break out. I have one and will use it maybe once a week if I feel like I need some exfoliation. However, if you break out because you have sensitive skin like I do, it's probably not the solution to your acne issues. If your insurance/finances will allow it, I think the best thing to do is go to a derm and see what they recommend.

I don't have sensitive skin, surprisingly.  And I already have a derm, but he specializes in cancer and removal/surgery.  I really don't want to get another one just for occasional bad skin.  Hmm.  I'll have to think about this some more.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I have one and use it about 2-3 times a week. I do have dry skin, but I also break out. As another poster said, it depends on the cause of your break outs. For me, it's hormonal, so the Clarisonic doesn't help much with that. If your problem is bacteria, it WILL help with that because the bristles clear out the pores. By the same notion, if you have blackheads, using a Clarisonic a few times a week will help to reduce the number of blackheads and, by extension, make your pores appear smaller.
  • I have the Mia 2 and you definitely don't need the settings. I keep mine on the same setting. I actually use mine morning and night. I really like it because I feel like it is getting everything off of my face. When starting out, I would start at every other day and go from there to see what your skin needs and can handle.

FWIW, I don' t like that the bristles don't actually spin all the way around. They just vibrate. I have actually been thinking about getting the Mary Kay brush because they spin and the replacement heads are cheaper.

  • I have one and I LOVE it. I have the plus. I do use the settings but they're definitely not necessary. Honestly, I prefer the plus mostly because it has a charging stand thing and I keep it on my counter instead of having it just lay there plugged in.

I have SUPER oily skin and acne issues and it has been a godsend. I would rescue it if my house was burning down.

I used to use one, but I have rosacea and it's not recommended for use.  Even using the softest brush available it irritated my skin too much, so I gave mine to my aunt :/

Ditto PP's, go to a dermatologist 1st to determine why you are breaking out and what the appropriate treatment is.
