Question on Cake Boxes

As part of our dinner, guests are getting ice cream sundaes. We are also having the vendor serve the cake as dessert. I thought it would be nice to provide cake boxes in case anyone wants to take their cake home. This would serve as our "favor" of sorts. I'm conflicted about where to put the cake boxes. I was thinking we could put them on a table off to the side, but I'm worried people won't notice them, and then the cake will end up being thrown away before anyone gets a chance to box it up to take home. I also thought about placing them at each place setting, but I think an empty box sitting there would be weird for anyone who did eat the cake, and people might expect there to be a separate favor inside. What should I do?

1) Cake boxes to the side on a table
2) Cake boxes empty on the table (stacked-or at each place setting)
3) Cake boxes at each place setting with a treat inside...those who eat the cake get just the treat, those who don't can add the cake and take it home.

Re: Question on Cake Boxes

  • Option 1. Then just have the DJ make an announcement before y'all cut the cake, while you have everyone's attention.

  • option one sounds nice! You could always get a cute sign to explain the boxes, which would also help decorate the table.
  • The Cake box sounds really thoughtful. Kudos to you.

I think you can put the cake boxes off to the side and have an announcement. If you are out of space and need to place them on the table - maybe put a cut note inside the box that says

"Insert Cake Here, 0:00" and list the cake cutting time. And that way people will understand what it's for and won't be worried that it's empty.
  • We are doing the side table with an announcement. Thanks for the advice!
  • I would make an announcement and put the filled cake boxes where the cake was instead of off to the side.  Hopefully this is also someplace that's convenient for guests to grab as they're walking out instead of out of the way in the back corner next to the restrooms or emergency exit..

  • Sounds like you're going with the announcement - but I would actually pre-box the cake if possible. It'd be easier and more convienient for guests to grab so they are more likely to actuallt take them.

See if at a specific time the venue will box up the cake for you? Or if they have someone you can tip extra to do it.. Then they are ready to go for the guests when they want to leave.. I know that we had the announcement that guest could eat all the cake/cupcakes, and the only cuts made in the two tier cake were the ones we made for the cake cutting.. (we are getting a fresh cake on the one year, from the baker we used)
