Aisle Runner

I found a red carpet runner online for me to walk down the aisle to at the church. It is made of rayon which looks kind of sheer. Would I be able to walk on it with high heels or would it rip? What would be the best material that won't cost a fortune, since I will only use it one time?

Re: Aisle Runner

  • Are you sure the church will let you do a runner, I know mine said no before I even asked (not that I was going to, don't see the point in one)? I can't walk in a normal situation, add a big dress, high heels (I usually rock in them but not well on my wedding day..), and the pressure of everyone looking at you, your gonna trip.. I did but lucky it was outside with just me and my brother and he caught me..

  • Maybe you should pop by a fabric store and check out rayon.

I don't believe it's really that slippery. I've seen some shiny-looking runners and no brides have tripped on my watch.

If you are worried about snagging a heel, then just forget the runner. Totally unnecessary.

  • A lot can depend on the surface under the runner as well regardless of the material.  A carpet with padding, or grass/ground, that your heel will sink into is going to cause those types of issues, but a wood, stone, tile isn't.  It also has to do with the type of heel you've got on and how you walk.  If you have a heel that's too high and you "scrape" the ground as you walk, you're more likely to "catch".  If you walk deliberate and with purpose while wearing the heel, taking your time to let the moment sink in, you'll be fine.  Of course, if you go really cheap, you get what you pay for..  Ours was your typical (cheap) aisle runner from Michael's/JoAnn's and we didn't have any issues - and used it for drop cloth after it was over...

I agree with the PP though - Check out a fabric store if you're considering rayon and depending on the length you need, I'd just purchase some fabric and iron it out, put it on a roll, then put it down when you do your rehearsal/set-up, then if people walk on it, they do...  It's not like it's paper or plastic...
