Share your favorite party dishes/recipes with me!

DH is turning 30 on Sunday, and I am throwing him a party. It will be a pretty laid back night watching football, tossing football outside, bonfire, drinks, etc.

I have some things in mind to make, but I'd love to hear some ideas from y'all!

What have you made for parties that was a huge hit?

Re: Share your favorite party dishes/recipes with me!

  • Brie
    Puff Pastry Sheets
    Peach (or rasberry) jam.

  • This is super lame because it's so easy, but I make pizza rolls and people go nuts for them.  Take pizza dough, roll it out into a rectangleish shape, then top it like you would a pizza... sauce, cheese, pepperoni, whatever.  Then roll it up like you would for cinnamon rolls and then cut 1 inch slices, and then bake at like 350 til they look done.  Be sure you grease the baking sheet before you bake them.

Also this cheese ball is a crowd pleaser: http://traceysculinaryadventures.com/2012/10/bacon-jalapeno-cheese-ball.html  I've tried it with all kinds of fancy crackers, but TBH, it's best with Ritz.

  • Snickers Dip. It is the BEST!

I also second the person who suggested baked brie. It is soooo yummy and a crowd pleaser around here!

I made these once for a get-together and couldn't stay away from them.

    Cream Cheese Jalapeno Crescent Poppers

This is my go-to when I need to bring food to a party.

We make these all the time.   We call them pepperoni rolls.

One of the biggest hits at parties for us are Ritz cracker-Parmesan cheese chicken nuggets.

Now I'm not a recipe follower and just kind-of go with the follow, so bare with me.

    Boneless chicken breast.
Butter - stick or so.  Depends on how much chicken you are using
    Ritz crackers
    Parmesan cheese (green container)

Trim the chicken and cut into cubes.
Melt the butter in a bowl you can use to dip the chicken into
Smash up the Ritz Crackers into small pieces (dust like).  I often just throw them in a bag and use a mallet.
Add an equal amount of parmesan cheese.
I sometimes use the bag, other times I put the mixture into a dredging pan.

Dip the chicken in the butter, then the cracker/cheese mixture and put on a sheet tray.

Bake at 400 for about 15 minutes or so. Flip about halfway through.

I put them in a casserole dish to serve.  I use toothpicks (or something similar) to use to pick out the chicken.  Then I have sides of various sauces nearby. Blue cheese, honey mustard, BBQ, etc.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Basically, the theme is, you can't go wrong with stuffing some kind of cheese product into some kind of bread product.
This. We had a "no cheese" super bowl party the year the Packers were in it - it was SO HARD.

  • Spread some cream cheese on a ham slice, then roll a dill pickle up in it.

    My favorite bean dip:
    1 can refried beans
    8 oz sour cream
    1 cup shredded cheddar
1 packet dry ranch dressing seasoning
Heat it all up together on the stove. It is an unflattering color, so I usually top it with some extra shredded cheese. So yummy though!

I made a bacon cheeseburger dip the other weekend that was good too. I just searched that on Pinterest, there were a lot of recipes.
  • Buffalo Chicken Dip!

You can use canned, or rotisserie chicken and bake it, or use chicken breast and crock pot it.  Super good.

I've also "sold out" of the Jalapeno Crescent Poppers @labro recommended.

That's just heresy.  NO ONE CAN TAKE MY CHEESE AWAY.  Except my sad, pathetic diet right now...which I'm cheating on with parmesan in salads.

@holyguacamole79  this might seem like a stupid question but, how easy is it to get to the brie when the pastry is wrapped around it? I always imagined this app being hard to scoop onto crackers, etc.
  • These are awesome ideas!! Thank you ladies so much!

  • PamBeesly524 - very easy.  Just have a butter knife with you to cut a wedge out of it.

We decided that cream cheese was okay because no cheese at all was just too hard.

OP, I love dips. My favorite, because it's so easy, is two pound of spicy breakfast sausage, browned and drained and then two bricks of cream cheese and a can of spicy Rotel added to the pan. Once it's all melty and creamy, I slap it in a crock pot to keep it warm, get good, thick tortilla chips and boom. Done.

    I also LOOOOVVVVEEEE this -

I won't tell you what my friends call it because it made Addie unable to add the sprinkles, but it's SO GOOD. I serve with graham crackers, rice crispy treats and cookies.

We call this hangover dip and I love it.

Recently I've been into making pizza appetizers pillsbury pizza crust, garlic, red anion with.... fig preserves, bacon,  and arugula or apples, bacon, and blue cheese.

LOL we call it burnt tire dip because someone said all my dips have gross names. I used to make buffalo chicken dip with canned chicken and we called that cat food dip..

  • Every time there is a thread like this, I suggest the same thing - Jalapeno poppers!

Halve 8-12 jalapenos length-wise, remove seeds. Mix 1 block cream cheese with a few diced chives and some garlic powder, and fill the jalapeno halves with the mixture. Cut bacon strips in half (hamburger-style), wrap around the jalapeno half and secure with a toothpick. Bake at 400* for 20-30 minutes (cook time depends on the thickness of the bacon).

This also works with mini sweet peppers, if you're not into spicy.

  • Well, I made the pizza rolls and they were a huge hit!! I also made wings, baked spinach dip, black bean hummus, brownies, and chocolate chip cheesecake. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other recipe ideas that y'all gave me in the future! Thanks again :)
