Holiday Treats

I love getting in the kitchen to make treats to give to neighbors and loved ones. I just got done with hot buttered rum mix and mini oreo cheesecakes. What are some of your favorite drink mixes and treats to make this time of year? I would really like to try out some new recipes!

Re: Holiday Treats

  • I'm a big fan of monkey bread around the holidays.    And only if it's hot.

Other than that I'm not really into specific holiday treats.  I love oreo cheesecakes, but it doesn't have to be during the holidays.

I drink champagne and cranberry juice.  In the islands we called it a hibiscus.  My sister calls it a poinsettia.   Which reminds me I need to pick up some champagne and cranberry for when I decorate the house on Thursday.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Oreos reminded me of Oreo Truffles, one of the best things ever. I highly encourage you to make them: click

I'm actually making my cheesecakes for Thanksgiving meals tonight. That's my favorite thing to bake.

I tried the Caramel Apple Sangria someone posted on here the other week and it was delicious! Someone told me about a red wine sangria with cranberries, oranges, cinnamon, etc. It sounds so good and I'm trying to find the recipe.

  • I make the same ones every year, but sometimes add in one new kind to try. I always make a cranberry bliss bar (Starbucks knockoff), ginger molasses cookie, buckeye cookies (chocolate with peanut butter inside), and regular Buckeyes (peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate).

I might try springerles (a German cookie) this year. I like ones that are easily freezable because I'll start baking this weekend. I make a ton of each, and give away a lot.
  • I second @lyndausvi - Monkey bread is the shit. And so easy to make.

  • Oh my gosh, this is awesome! I'm going to have to try some of these out!!!

THANK YOU! The ABC store didn't have caramel vodka so I used vanilla and it was still good. Now, I want to find caramel and stock up!

I don't have recipes I can link easily....they're all in my mom's recipe books but we always make -

    Iced sugar cookie cutouts
    Snickerdoodles
White and dark chocolate covered pretzels
    Almond toffee
    Peppermint bark
Breakfast bread (family version of monkey bread) on Christmas morning
    Candied pecans
    Buckeyes

  • Ooh!! I just made cordial cherries (you know, the cherries wrapped in some sort of creme and then dipped in chocolate) and mint patties! So good!! H loves the cherries, and I made them to surprise him. I want to make fudge at some point too and maybe turtle caramels, which is basically like the turtle candy - chocolate chips and pecans in a pan and then caramel on top. So good!!!
  • I like to make rice krispie treats with a chocolate topping. Sometimes, I will put red and green sprinkles or Christmasy toppings on them.
  • I do brownie cherry cheesecake (a layer of brownies, a layer of cheesecake, topped with cherry pie filling). It's a holiday tradition. I also love fresh banana bread (well, you make it two days before you plan to eat it, but it's homemade), and cranberry-ginger bread. Andes mint chocolate cookies are a great festive spin on chocolate chip (cookies dough wrapped around an Andes mint, topped with a walnut half). For drinks, I only make hot chocolate (condensed milk, baking cocoa powder, a tough of sugar, whole milk). I definitely need to try and expand my horizons, though. Y'all have awesome recipes and ideas.

  • My list:

decorated sugar cookies (with royal icing, the pretty kind though not as tasty)

    buckeyes (peanut butter balls)

    oreo truffles

cake batter blondies with Christmas sprinkles

  • I make lots of different cookies but people go nuts for these peanut butter bars... similar to buckeyes but less work.  The recipe I use is from my mom but these are pretty much the same, minus the peanut butter in the chocolate topping.  http://www.recipetineats.com/5-ingredient-peanut-butter-chocolate-bars-no-bake/

  • My uncle introduced me to a new drink, he calls 'bag of apples' LOL. It's half crown regular, half crown apple, top with sprite (I pref soda since crown apple is sweet). It's pretty tasty, and gets you perty intoxicated.

I'm totally going to try champ & cran. I drink cran & gingerale all the time, but that seems just a bit fancier!

  • This is my first Christmas as a married lady. While I am sure DH and I will keep some traditions from our families, it is important to us to create some of our own. This thread is giving me some great ideas :)

  • M&M cookies (mom's recipe) are my only consistent holiday baking item.

My best friend/MOH usually comes over the weekend before Christmas and we make a bunch of stuff then but it's usually whatever she wants to give as gifts... so we've done pecan tarts (my fave), the oreo truffle balls, decorated sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, etc.

I'm not much of a baker but I make somewhat of an effort at Christmas!

I just discovered this little beverage.  We never got around to opening it yesterday as my brother brought some Duckthorn to enjoy, but I think I may try it as I decorate the tree this afternoon.

Why is it so hard to suddenly post pictures???
