I visited a few bakeries in the FW and mid-cities area and was quoted anywhere from $2-$5 a slice.

I ended up going with Market Street in Colleyville. The cake we tasted was delicious and the price was great -- $2.25 a slice.

I'm using a lady named Lana Woodall and she only charges $2 a piece with delivery, stand and all. Her number is 214.695.0258.
I've seen a few places that do $2 per slice.

I'm also going with Colleen's Cakes. She is great and we are getting a 3 tier cake (serves 100) and 2 large cheesecakes with various toppings (instead of a grooms cake, serves about 50) for $525.

We got a buttercream cake from Panini that was $3.25 per slice, delivery was extra (and my florist did the flowers, so that cost was not included).

fondant is usually more expensive than buttercream, especially if you want elaborate details/decorations.  I will say that you should order a bit more cake than your head count (10-25%) because the bakery's idea of a serving is on the small side.

I'm using Colleens too!  She is so sweet and her cakes are amazing. We are paying $625. The cake is mostly buttercream. It's a detailed design and she said she can do it w/o fondant which saved a good penny. The brides cake will feed 130 and it's 3 different flavors. She is also doing a custom grooms cake to resemble a container of blue bell cookies and cream. She even did a custom cookies and cream flavored filling to go w/the white chocolate cake. She is also giving us an extra tier the size of the top tier in a 4th flavor pre boxed just for the bride and groom. :)

    Courtney-

Thx for posting that topic. I was wondering the same thing too. I went to two places last week, fancy cake and some one other, gosh...I can't remember it. but average was $5 per serving. so it would cost me around $500.  i was kinda shock they are charging that much.  I also read here some one use Central Market.  so i called them, cause i know central market always have good cake.  they told me is it will cost around $100 for 100 serving, plus depending on the designs.  I want something very simple anyway.  So i might end up using them.

This thread is so interesting! Before I booked my cake baker, I checked out a bunch of bakeries recommended here, listed on the knot, and that had emailed me after a bridal show I attended ... and they were ALL $3.50 - $5 per slice. Glad to see there are a lot of different price levels for cake in the area!

What are the bakeries in the other places that were mentioned?

Also - Creme de la Creme has bride cake (feeds 130) & groom cake (feeds 56) for $595. That's too expensive for me - but they do have good cake.

Tifflee01, if you were asking me - unfortunately I've cleared out all my old cake vendor bookmarks. :( I know I was looking at a bakery in Weatherford, TX and The Cake Guys' Sweet Inspiration packages (Dallas). I'd read through basically every post on this board when I first got engaged and moved here - in January - and I remember The Cake Guys being mentioned a lot. I think their prices for the packages were similar to Creme de la Creme's prices, though.

I also found on craigslist - my favorite resource -

Chassy Cakes is offering a free groom's cake & 100 truffles - I'm still looking for cakes. chassycakes.com

I have a cake lady (my old co-worker), but still debating. It would be about 250 for my cake with her for 210 ppl. They taste good. I'm just not sure about if she can do the difficult designs. She's on facebook also with lots of pics. Adela - 817-875-7892 or adela.whitehead@gmail.com

Panini runs about $2.88 per slice, assuming her average cake at $375 serves 130.  Extra flowers or fake layers will add to the price.  She does not charge anything extra for different flavors and she works in buttercream.  Excellent cakes.
