Wedding Cakes

We've been having trouble with finding a baker. We will be having fifty guests, so the bakers we've talked to have all been trying to push us into a two tier or small (6"-8"-10") three tier cakes. We'd really like to go with a four tier cake (6"-8"-10"-12") because 1) wedding cake serving sizes are just so small! 2) Our families are big fans of cake and we definitely want to make sure we have enough for everyone aka extra servings. And if there's some left over, well it's cake - who's going to be bothered by having some extra cake for later? Certainly not us. So I guess the question is, does anyone have any suggestions for where to get a wedding cake from? We are getting married near Milwaukee. Thank you!

Re: Wedding Cakes

  • Have you looked into some local grocers, Wal-Mart, places like Costco/Sam's or even restaurants?  I think if you speak to Costco directly, they may make tiered cakes.
  • I replied on the Food pages..  But..

    1) Check out the Wisconsin Retail Baker's Association website as they have member bakers that you can find local options..  Also, Wisconsin ICES (International Cake Exploration Societe') has a large contingent down in that part of the state.

    2) Check with the Cake Guru in Oshkosh - Tamara does a great job with cakes and is willing to go further out for deliveries as long as one pays for delivery (she did my niece's "Sweet 16" cake about 45 minutes drive from the bakery)..

If anything, make sure the bakers aren't thinking that they're pricing the cake based on servings instead of tier sizes.  That may be why they're trying to talk you into the smaller cake, but really, I know of no bakers who would turn down making a larger cake if the money is there...
