Happy Hump Day

I'm a little under the weather.    Last night was the club's employee holiday party.   then people came over to house and didn't leave until after mid-night.     Which is WAY past my bedtime.

The party was fun.  We won some cool gifts.  One not so cool, but was able to trade with someone else for a better one.     They gave us all Visa GC for $75.  That was a nice bonus.

How is everyone else?

Pretty good so far. I had to take a day trip to attend a meeting for work yesterday, so I've been playing catch up all day. At least the meeting was worth it - the bank is going to be making several positive changes in the upcoming months and will be taking some of my responsibilities off of me so I'm not doing the job of 2+ people. Somehow that makes it worth the stress of coming back to tons of emails and missed calls.

ETA- what kind of gifts did you win @lyndausvi?

  • Sweet!  What gifts did you win?

My day has been going good.  Got the microchipping and pet insurance straightened out for our new pup, Betsey.

But my day has also been stymied by my roommate constantly clearing his throat and sniffling.  He usually does it to some extent and I can tune it out, but he has been sick lately, so its happening much more frequently and more voluminous.  Ugh.  Last Thurs & Fri were REALLY bad, but he was at least apologizing that it was happening more often.  But now, he doesn't seem to care about what gross noises I have to put up with all day.

  • Backstory - A few months back a vendor gave him a very nice and expensive switch knife.  Which DH not only does DH have no need for they are illegal to carry here.

The setup was if your number is called you pick any gift on the stage.

DH had inside information that one of the gifts was a Go Pro.   DH made a deal with some of his staff that if they get the Go Pro, DH will trade the knife for the Go Pro.   Sure enough the 3rd person called was one of DH's guys and he picked the Go Pro.   He has no need for a Go Pro, but wanted the knife.    The knife is almost twice as expensive as the Go Pro, so it was a fair deal.

My number was called.  I got a 24 cup popcorn maker.  Not sure what I'm going to do with it.  It looks nice and I like popcorn.  It's just so big.

Then DH's number was called.  He got a 6 ct programmable crock-pot.  Which is nice, but we already have a large crock-pot.  I tried to trade with the guy who got the smaller crock-pot because I've been wanting a small one.  He didn't want to trade.       Another guy had gotten 6 crock soup bowls with handles which he had no use for.  So we traded for those.  They are nice stone bowls.  Pretty colors too.  Can't wait to use them.

Pretty good here as well. I'm trying to get things straightened up and decorated at my parents' house to surprise my mom. She was really sick and finally went back to work today for the first time in two and a half weeks. When I talked to her yesterday she was saying that she is really behind on decorating for Christmas and the house is mess (it wasn't even that bad) but she's still so tired, so I decided I'd try to get as much done as I can before she gets home from work.

I keep getting phone calls from different vendors from the bridal expo I went to. Six of them have left messages saying I am a winner of their drawing and to call them back to schedule. I'm just not about all that today (or ever really).

ETA: You already said what you won...question was irrelevant

  • Sounds like you made out well at the party, @lyndausvi !

@OliveOilsMom please provide photos of your puppy.

So far my day has actually been very quiet, considering the holidays are generally a busy time in retail marketing... I think I just prepared so well, and did so much ahead of time in anticipation of a bunch of last-minute craziness that I actually don't have quite enough to do. Hence being on here.

But I am really looking forward to the rest of the week! Tomorrow I am helping out with an employee sale for a few hours, then I am helping wrap gifts for the family my work "adopted" for the holidays. And then on Friday is the annual Christmas luncheon, which takes a few hours and include a raffle. They give away a TON of prizes, including TVs, bikes, gift cards, tickets to sporting events, etc. One year I won a digital camera, and another year I won a $100 gift certificate to a nice Italian restaurant (I have yet to use it, though).

  • I'm blah right now.

DH's company party was Saturday, which was nice.  They also did a drawing for prizes (the prizes were all gift cards).  H got $25 to Macy's.  It was funny because people ended up trading their cards.  Someone got a gift card to a gas station brand and his wife works for a large oil/gas company & gets a discount, so they traded with the woman who hates coffee & got a Starbucks gift card.  It was funny.

Otherwise I'm well.  I think I may achieve my goal of not setting foot in a single store for Christmas shopping!  And tonight DH & I are going to a "Die Hard" quote-along.  I flippin love these events!  They put some of the lines on the screen karaoke-style so everyone says them together.  And they always give us props during the movie.  For example, when we saw "Elf" last year, they gave everyone a white balloon.  During the snowball fight scene, we inflated our balloon and threw it in the theater.  It's a blast!
  • Pretty good considering I am inhaling fumes from stain. Lol. I stained a shelf my FIL made us to use as a mantle and the fumes are pretty strong.

  • @Madamerwin I'm at work and can't post a picture.  But this is the picture I posted last week, when we got her! Clicky

Oh, i forgot.  DH "made" me open up one of my christmas gifts yesterday.  He said I needed a dress coat to wear to the party.   :)

UH, I love that! Beautiful color.

  • The color is great. I got a lot of compliments on it last night.    I'm a little obsessed with the color purple.

  • For the last three days, we have had cable guys here.  The problem was very complex, and was from the cable line, not our house.   DH, electronic engineer extrordinaire, was in his element.  Those poor guys!  He watched everything they did and made suggestions.  I know just how they felt!

  • Oh and I made SIL's Christmas present today. Well, it's part of her present. Anyways, she loves glitter and loves to curse so this is what she got...

There is a bad spot on the "I" that I have to fix but they turned out pretty well

Oh, I DID see that last week! So cute! Every time I look at the Humane Society website, I want to adopt ALL of the dogs. Especially the older ones. When H and I buy a house with property, I am adopting a couple of older dogs.

  • @emmaaa ah sweet!  I would *love* to hang those in my house!

I'm 100% positive she's going to love it and hang it in her living room. At least until they have kids lol

  • Got my new car today!  Gave in to my love of American muscle, there's a pretty little Charger in my garage tonight.
  • Company... Holiday... Parties? What are those?

....We have a social with treats during the day at work but any other outside parties are up to the generosity of a boss. It's been awhile :/

  • We finally decorated the tree today.  We got a super tall one, a bit by accident.  DH thought it was okay, but I prefer short little trees.  This one is probably the biggest one we've had.  There's about 2' of clearance for presents too.  :)

  • I actually had a really good day at work. I was feeling really dizzy yesterday so I had an extra long weekend (my weekend is Sun.-Mon.) and only worked for a couple hours last night. Lots of news today, so yay! I've got all my Christmas candy making done for gifting.
