I've used a few on Youtube. I tried to do a more intricate one than a 6 loop bow but had a hard time making all the loops look nice. Pretty sure I watched this tutorial on a constant loop while I was making a bunch of new bows this year for my outside Christmas decorations.

ETA: I recommend tying it with a pipe cleaner rather than floral wire. The wire worked just fine, but I was able to get a tighter final twist with the pipe cleaner plus it was long which means you had leftover sticking out that you could use to attach the bow to a wreath or a tree or whatever.

  • I have made more bows then I would care to recall (worked in as a florist for 8 years) and that tutorial is basically how I make all of my bows.  Sometimes I put the center loop in, but a lot of times I leave it out.

I agree with labro that pipe cleaners are a lot easier to use then floral wire.  Also, wired ribbon is your friend.  Your bow will keep its shape better and it is a lot more forgiving then non-wired ribbon.

One year my Mom called me and asked me to make her 12 bows and then ship them to her.  Now she just begs me to come visit her in October so that I can make her new bows every year.

  • @labro  THANK YOU! A couple of tutorials I found did not have video, just words which are nice but not as helpful.  I have floral wire, maybe I'll try to find some pipe cleaners somewhere!

@Maggie0829 if I mail you the stuff and pay you, you can make mine! HAH. Thank you!

  • @Maggie0829 Ugh I feel your pain. I made 14 bows this year, but at least it was for myself.

@emmaaa Definitely use wired ribbon! This way you can squash them all flat when you store them and then poof them back up again next year.

  • @labro I have wired ribbon! I at least did think ahead on that part.

So this is my first attempt
...not bad! Thank you both for the advice @labro and @Maggie0829

  • @emmaaa That's beautiful and I love the ribbon you're using. You can even manipulate the folds a bit to make a rounder shape if you like (I love wired ribbon!!), but I love the more bow-like shape you have too!

I ran a flame really quickly over the ribbon ends to seal them (the fabric is basically plastic) to prevent them from fraying over time. And by really quickly I  mean! I definitely may or may not have overly singed a few of them....

This is how mine turned out. I did shorter loops because I was have a really hard time with anything long.

  • @labro that's the look I'm going for, more rounded rather than like a bow. That's why I think I might try it out again but I'm pretty proud of myself for the first time. Lol. I got glitter all over my desk from that ribbon though haha
