Needless to say I'm not longer on their email list.

How is your Sunday going?

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Re: No, just no

  • The link doesn't work :(

It's cold and rainy here, which means watching tv and addressing Christmas cards in my jammies.

Our Sunday school kids especially cracked us up today. They said the disciples taught people how to nae-nae. Then they gave us a demo. It probably didn't help that we brought them Christmas candy.
  • I'm watching football.     DH and I are bad and opened 1 gift last night.  He gave me Wen products.   Never used them before.  I deep conditioned this morning.  Seems to work well.  Although I'm not sure I want to like them as they seem expensive to maintain.

Today I promised myself I would do some grading.

Instead, I've played WoW and baked Snickerdoodles. And Knotted, of course.

  • After church, my mom and I went to the mall, Toys R Us and Target to finish getting all of the young nieces and nephews their Christmas presents. I just got home and now that I've sat down, I don't think I'll be doing anything productive. I'll be at the firehouse tomorrow, so I'm trying to convince myself that I need to get something done, but I just kinda don't care.

  • Today was all about getting ready for Christmas in my house so I've been sitting watching Aladdin on tv and wrapping my presents. Ugh I'm so terrible at it so its taking me forever!

  • BF and I are doing our weekly epic cooking (we cook 3 big dishes that we pack up individually for lunches and dinners ) and we are indulging our annual screening of Sir Patrick Stewart in a Christmas Carol and not judging the other person for choking up or crying. It's been a lovely, low key day.

Smart.   I do not do batch cooking weekly.   Although about once a quarter I will made big batch of meatballs and sauce and another day pulled pork.  Individually freeze using my Food Saver for later use.  I normally get a good 7-9 portions for later use.    DH just the other day made a big batch of chicken parmesan for me.  I froze about 8 packets of those.

Thanks to my Food Saver, my freezer is pretty packed.  So much so my goal in January is to just eat out of my freezer.

We save a lot of money, and eat better this way. Also, those weekdays when you are too tired to cook, all you have to do is heat something up. I have been inspired to research a huge variety of recipes to mix things up.

  •  DH working most nights so I'm on my own for dinner.  It's hard to make something like meatballs or pulled pork for one.  So I make them up when DH is home for dinner.  Then the leftovers are there for me when I'm by myself.   Pull out a pack, heat it up, thrown on some pasta or another side and in little time I have a home cooked meal.

  • I finished my Christmas shopping on line this weekend, just waiting for two gifts to be delivered. H is going to start wrapping tomorrow. Still have to do Christmas cards.

I need to figure out a Christmas lunch/dinner menu for twelve people. I usually have prime rib, but I'm thinking about changing the menu. I'd love to do a crown roast, but there are too many big eaters for that.

    looks yummy.

I'm no help.  We are having people over, but it's all just small bite stuff and leftovers from xmas eve dinner at the club.

That's horrible.  Really, are we going to start crowdfunding for everything?  I'd like to get my hair done, can someone give me $200?

Fortunately, a lot of the comments are saying the same thing.  There is still hope for the world...

BF gets home later than me so we often eat at different times, the grab and go meals makes it easy. Mom just gave us a food saver so I've been having fun with it.

I also have a crazy gluten sensitivity so I prefer to eat meals I cooked myself.

  • We had DD's friend birthday party this afternoon at a local bowling alley. Yesterday we had breakfast with Santa, a Christmas party at our friend's brewery and then the local light parade ( GREAT WEATHER. IT WAS 55 DEGREES AT SIX!!) .

Next weekend DH sees Star Wars and I get my haircut. I'm hoping for some wrapping and baking time.

This is just gross. My FI and I have started looking at houses and I'll admit the thought of down payments and financing and all that is completely daunting but, call me crazy, I feel like if we're adult enough to think about buying a house we should be adult enough to actually pay for it. It boggles my mind the things that people are asking others to pay for.
  • Oh dear. Real Estate crowd funding is a no no!!

My mom and I went to lunch, did some shopping, and then went to go see that Christmas movie The Night Before (I think) with Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I was surprised by how funny it was.

I just finished my testing class and am now done with classes until March. Now I can focus on the wedding and our relocation.

OK so I don't get how that crowdfunding can work.  I'm "in the business" and have also bought 3 homes.  Assuming you're getting a mortgage, the lender wants to know where your down payment comes from.  So, doing it this way just seems like a nightmare for a loan.  Mystery deposits send up huge red flags with lenders/underwriters.

It's so crazy, on our current house, I gave H the money for our initial $5,000 deposit.  I was not on the loan, and was also the agent on the property.  Fast forward 10 months later, the lender wanted a letter written and signed by me, to tell them that that 5k was a gift, and not a loan, and that we were engaged to be married (we weren't at the time, but close enough).  Apparently if I was his girlfriend, that wouldn't be good enough, only fiance or wife would do.  Also, the rest of the down payment came from the sale of our previous home, so we had to give the new lender copies of our closing documents from the previous home (which we sold 8 months before we closed on the new one) to show that that money indeed came from the sale of the previous property.

In my line of work in title/escrow, we see people who have relatives write their deposit checks, only for us to have to refund them back because the lender can't verify where the person that wrote the check got the money.  It's ridiculous.

ETA:  Heh, just read this comment posted: "This suggestion is a nightmare for your mortgage company processor and underwriter. You may have to get a gift letter from every donor AND write a letter of explaination as to why you obtained funds this way and/or that the person that donated to you will not be living with you, Depends on some other underwriting factors. Even with this, you may be limited as to the amount of "gifts" you can get as a percentage of the loan amount, around 3%.

The alternative is to take the money out of this account and put it in your own account and let it mature for at least 3-4 months before you buy a home Even this will generate questions. Where did you get the money????.... and will force the mortgage company to get a letter of explaination from you. Better to save your self and put it into the Barclay's Dream account."

Me too. It doesn't make any sense. There is no way a person could get all of the documentation needed to support a crowdfunded down payment.

  • I came here to warn her as well. However, @lyndausvi, I do want to mention that I used Wen products for around a year and never had a problem.
