Wedding Woes

There really isn't a Tuesday post yet?

Okay, I'll go.

There is drama regarding the department lunch and it may be more "generic Chinese/sushi buffet" rather than Thai/Vietnamese.  Honestly, I'll be okay either way (it's actually one of the better buffets I've seen), but I definitely have a taste for the Thai/Vietnamese place.  Buffet guy is outnumbered, but is also our boss, so we'll see how this plays out.

Wooz and I were leaving for the bus stop this morning, and when I opened the front door, there was someone standing on our front porch.  !!!  Turned out it was the USPS doing her first round of package deliveries this morning.

Our volunteer fire department rides through town with Santa on the back of a fire truck every Christmas (he waves and throws candy), and they just posted the schedule.  Our neighborhood's day is Thursday.

I really don't feel like working today, but I'ma push through.  I said this last week, but I really am like a kid waiting for Christmas break.

  • I'm getting impatient for school to be out, I have my grandkids everyday and need to get finished with my shopping.

We got sort of good news a few minutes ago.  H's mail jeep messed up the other day and we were afraid it was the transmission, but it was just some dry rotted lines so only $280 vs over $1000!! The one good thing that came out of his accident in the summer was that he had to buy a 2nd back up jeep. I was mad at the time but its really came in handy.

Heff my H is a mail man, the 2 or 3 trips a day now are the norm. with Christmas.  They can't fit it all in so he takes a load of packages out then does the regular route, its making for really long days.  At least its been strange very warm weather this year which is good for him.
  • Morning.  I feel like I've been on the phone all morning - doctor bill questions, calming DH down after he was told his paycheck was messed up yet again, trying to contact someone at the sports organization office so I can buy the jersey I forgot to buy when I signed DD2 up for basketball.

We are heading to my parents' house Saturday for our xmas with them.  My sister is having an ugly sweater party that night and we'll all open presents the next day.  I have a lot to do before this weekend.

I can only imagine what this time of year must be like for Mr. Peg.  I've never seen our mail carrier so early, so I'm sure she must have loads of deliveries.  Sunday morning, I woke up to a notification that my Amazon package had been delivered, and was sure it was a mistake.  We have Sunday delivery in our area, but usually around noon.  Went downstairs, and there it was on the doorstep, before I even started coffee.
  • I'm just not feeling work.  I have my entire house to myself for 17 days now and I just want to hunker down and watch Netflix.  Last night I was nominated to and accepted a board position with our local gay and lesbian center.  I'm super excited about it and still kind of aglow.  Other than that, I got nothing.
  • Also, has anyone here ever done charcuterie?  My brother is arriving at 9:30 next Wednesday night (squee!), so I'm sure he'll eat at the airport or take something on the plane, but I also wanted to have something for him to eat when he arrives.  Something I can prep ahead of time (since I don't exactly want to be banging around the kitchen at 10:00 at night), goes well with wine (although what doesn't, amirite?), and is good for nibbling.  He's a runner, so protein is definitely a bonus.  I've never done charcuterie, so I'd like to give it a whirl, and it seems simple enough.  Tips?
  • Our mail carrier is out sick/hurt.  The subs are having a tough time.  We're on a little cul-de-sac and they are constantly going around to change direction.  4 times in an hour.

BIL always buys no name brand gifts.  I suggested girly stuff for M2- nail polishes, play makeup, hair bows.  He got some set from China.  It's AWFUL.  First I tossed the nail polish because it was the consistency of glue.  Then I tried the eyeshadow on an arm and yep, she's allergic.  I won't let her put the lipstick on because she might eat it.  So I printed a bunch of blank faces and I'm going to let her color with it.  I'll let her use Christmas money to get a new set.

  • I love doing a charcuterie , sometimes just for dinner, @Heffalump.  I recommend having 2-3 meats.  One should be somewhat more spicy, the other flavorful but more bland.  Get some nice crackers.  One hard cheese and one soft cheese.  Some nice roasted red peppers are a fabulous addition too.  If you're really into the wine matching, an oaky chardonnay and a zinfindel will almost always match up with that sort of plate.
  • Morning. I dragged myself out of bed early this AM to walk one of the dogs but it wasn't apparently long enough and she keeps bugging me to go out for another walk. Anyways, it's cold here. Like in the 30's and I have no desire to go on a walk.

I I found out this morning they are paying me a retention bonus at work. It's almost $10k pre-tax and they are splitting it in 2 payments. One I get next paycheck and the other I get next year in December which is nice, the only caveat is I have to stay with my employer for the next year. Fine by me. No idea what my plan is for the money but it's a nice surprise.
  • Oh and we have family pictures Saturday.  I hate my clothes.  I hate me body.  I have a huge pimple by my lip.
  • Our clerk in our office lost her son last year. He was only 23 and died in his sleep. He had been suffering from seizures for years She got a call while she was at work and all I could do was cry. Her husband didn't tell her he passed away over the phone, but she knew in her heart that he was gone.It was so sad.

The holidays have been really hard for her. I've tried to keep her busy because it seems to help her day move faster. Today when I walked in the office she was crying.

I wish I could say or do something to help her. She says that I have helped her keep her sprits up by just being me, but I know Christmas is going to be hard for her and her family.

I know that this time of year is hard for so many people. Debbie downer over here......

  • back to work for me, but Friday is my last day until Jan 4th, so not too bad.

we enjoyed our trip to STL, and got to spend some time with DG's family, so that was awesome. the kids had a blast, and they're going to be pen-pals.

i have 2 Dr. appointments this week- IUD f/u and f/u with neurologist on MRI/sensory testing/allergy testing/ and one test that was missed in the last round. Not sure what the workup will mean for my migraine treatment plan, but will be interesting to see how it goes.

Helping out with a GLAD event shortly - we're hosting a holiday party for Ally Coming Out Day. (We have too much in October, so pushed it back this year.) I'm the designated photographer.

I love the roasted peppers suggestion--that was something I hadn't even thought of.  There is this local market in our downtown (my suburb's old-timey downtown) and I think they have just the sort of sausages and things I'll need.
  • Ugh Nola.  I am so sorry for her.  I'm trying not to tear up since I'm in the office.  I feel for her.  The holidays can be incredible hard and I know that is the case this year for us.  My heart goes out to her.

I'm here, but have been in meetings and am in the office.  We had a really great townhall with our VP.  Being in the office has been nice, but a lot of people have been asking about what happened with MIL.

I cannot wait for my day off tomorrow.  I'm so ready.  And then only 1.5 days until I'm off for Christmas week.  Bring it on!
  • Nola, my old church does/did a 'blue christmas' thing that I thought was a really nice helpful thing.  I wish I saw more of them (kinda like this:  http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/12/21/blue-christmas-grief/1785833/)

I am totally behind on things--how is it possible to be unemployed and be FURTHER behind than normal?  I have 8 types of cookies yet to makeand haven't mailed my secret Satan yet.

  • NOLA, It's such a tough time of year for some folks.  Our church does a "blue Christmas" service too.

V, you are in my thoughts.  The end of a relationship is never easy.
