  I found mine on my local board here on TK.  If your local board is active, that is a great resource.

  It is NEVER too early to book your vendors. Your photographer, videographer, and and DJ can only be one place on your day. I always tell people, who cares how early you are - make sure the vendor you want is yours on your day!

  Ditto, PP. I found mine on The Knot and WeddingWire... this company was HIGHLY recommended according to reviews on both sites. I made sure to read the negative comments as well, to see if they were completely horror stories or just someone being overly dramatic ;p

  There are allot of photographers not listed on the knot. Check google out, that is how I found mine!

  References are always great, but if you can't get them try your local craigslist or bridal shows. Make sure you thoroughly interview and you are happy with their style

  I read style me pretty and green wedding shoes pretty much everyday - when there was a local wedding posted and I liked the photos, I'd look up that photographer's website...

  
  

  If I had just used The Knot as my only resource, I would've missed out on a lot of great options - including the ones we're going with. GL!

  I'm a photographer, but alas couldn't photograph my own wedding, so like PP said, there are so many photographers out there that are excellent but not on the Knot or Wedding wire (their fee to advertise with them is ridiculous and with so many photographers their are so many to compete with) like our phtoographer we finally found. First, we entered contests (google them, and enter as many as possible!!!) and won 3!!! two full photography seessions for wedding weekend and an engagement session. Suffice it to say the photographer we chose had the same look I like when I photograph so it was a win-win. Ask around and find out what your family, friends co-workers have used in the past. If you google someone and you're a "destination" wedding most of the time if you pay for flight and hotel and per diem, the photographer will be happy to discount or even do the albums at cost saving you tons of money.
