Snow day

The robocall came in at 5:30 for a 2 hr delay so I figured I might as well exercise.  Then I hit the treadclimber and shoveled the snow.  Neighbors are coming over at 10:30 to sled.  I plan to let them have hot chocolate and play video games all afternoon.

Re: Snow day

  • How much snow did you get, 6?

It has been cold this week.  The wind chill was -20 on Sunday and it has been in the -10s the last two days.  Yuck.

I have my gyn appointment this afternoon.  I also need to get DH some medicine.  He got my nasty cold.  That crap is no fun.
  • I'd say a little over an inch, but it's still coming down and there are a lot of spots with ice under it.  It's also pretty windy and visibility is low.

It seems they call more often when the weather is happening during travel times.  So 4" overnight may not get called, but 2" from 7-8 leads to a cancellation.
  • Stay warm!
  • The snow is hanging around awhile this morning here.  Hopefully, we're on the tail end of it here soon.  Visibility sucks because it's all blowing around.

The kiddo bounced back and went to school today.  DefConn is still bebopping around.   DH thinks he has a sinus infection.  Why he didn't hit up a minute clinic yesterday is beyond me.  He did take nighttime stuff at 5pm last night and was completely worthless to anyone. I had to work OT from 7p-9p.  So that was fun trying to force him to do the basics (like get DefConn in pj's and to bed).  I should have canceled it, but he told me he 'had' it.  Um OK.

Besides having most the laundry done for our trip, we are not ready at all.  We haven't pulled suitcases out or anything.  Luckily, we're not leaving until after school on Thurs.  DH and I both have the day off.  So I'm sure we'll just do the last minute scramble.  ::le sigh::

I felt like complaining about the cold, but I don't really have a leg to stand on here.  Wooz is hoping for a snow day soon.  The extended forecast showed a possibility of snow a week from Thursday, so I'm not exactly holding my breath.  But we're approaching the time of year where, if they're going to happen at all, they'll happen soon.  I always think I'd love a snow day, and then by about 2:00 when DS won't nap and DD is complaining about being bored, I mostly just want to drink.

@mrs.conn23, I'm jealousE of your ski trip.  I have an inquiry in for a Presidents Day cabin next month, so here goes round 2.  I might just send DH tubing with the kids and sit in the hot tub.  ;)  We talked about Atlanta this weekend since tubing fell through for MLK, but I have done exactly jack about it.  Maybe today.

  • We just have the really cold, no snow.  I wish we'd get some for a day or two, that's plenty though.  I don't miss that part of living in North very often.

I've been having a hard time for the last year and a half, since the last time I had stents put in my heart - still a lot of chest pain and tire so easy.  I can do things, just not for very long without resting.  I have a blockage that they know about but it has some small veins feeding it so they want to delay open heart surgery (they tried to stent and couldn't). With my age and this being a second open heart they want to wait as long as possible.  My mom and Dr. convinced me to apply for disability back in August, I got a letter (finally) yesterday saying its denied.  I knew it would be the result but still is annoying, I've dealt with this over 15 years now, and I'm just tired of it. Glad I'm alive but tired of having to watch what I do, then them tell me to just suck it up.
  • Peg, denial rate is high for first time applicants (we tell everyone they'll be denied.  I can only think of one person who we helped apply and they were accepted the first time).  Hire an attorney to guide you through the appeals process.  They'll do all the work for you (appeal process, ordering medical records, etc.) and just take their cut from the back pay that'll come through.  It's 100% worth it.

It's not that cold here, really.  Feeling pretty good today, lots of work to do.  I bought a small pub table and chairs for what I'm calling my breakfast nook that I'm picking up today.  I'm really looking forward to having someplace to eat and drink coffee in the am.
  • It's really cold here.  I don't think we got above zero yesterday and it's not expected today either.  It's -9 now with a high of -1.  We start to warm up tomorrow to 20!  DH drove me to work this morning so I didn't have to stand out and wait for the bus.

I have a hair cut tonight and can't wait.  It's out of control and I hate spending extra time on and then having it still look bad. I had a mani/pedi last night so it's beauty week.

  • That's terrible Pkat.  sorry you are going through that.
  • snow day here too.  I didn't think it was that bad, but, kiddo has sniffles anyhow, so sitting on the couch watching  'lilo and stitch' is all good.
  • Our district closed, but a lot of the neighboring ones are still in.  A neighbor said it took her over an hour to get the 20 mins to her kid's school.

    Holy crap.
  • Morning. I wish we could get a snow day but then that means we'd have snow so that's not cool.

I I forgot to set my alarm but I managed to wake up on my own without issue and got the kids ready for school on time.
  • I wish they'd mention snow in our forecast. It doesn't even have to snow - they would shut the city down.

It's been in the high 30s-low 40s the last few mornings - not too bad for me, but cold for Houston. Wolverine was excited to wear her gloves, today.

No plans for MLK day. I think DK has the day off because the banks are closed, but Wolverine has school and I have work.

Work-wise, my boss indicated that he wants me to get a level (promotion) this year. Not sure if he has already submitted/had the leadership team approve it, or if he's doing it after performance reviews, but I don't think he would have said anything if it wasn't certain. Hopefully he gets me a good salary boost in addition to the job level. (Around 6% or so is pretty standard - it depends on where you fall in the salary range/seniority/the mood of HR/position of the moon relative to Jupiter/etc.). I also was nominated to participate in a ~2 week leadership program in March. My boss approved it, so I'm waiting on final confirmation from the folks running the program. I've been trying to do this for the past 2 years, so hopefully it works out.
