Since there are so many of us on here who enjoy our libations:

Favorite beers?
Favorite liquors?
Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon?
Favorite cocktails?
Favorite wine grape?

Me:

Beer:  I love a good porter or stout. Expedition Stout is my absolute favorite and I buy a case every year to both drink and age.  I need to restart my vertical as I know only have one bottle of 2014 left.

Liquor:  Vodka -- I still love Grey Goose, even though the stupid Sex and the City people made it famous.  I was drinking it way before then.

Scotch:  The MacAllen generally, but if I have the cash, The MacAllen 15 Fine Oak.  Close 2nd: Balvenie 12.

Cocktails:  Very dirty and very dry vodka martini or an old fashioned.

Favorite wine grape:  Zinfandel or Pinot Noir.

Favorite beers? I like a good easy-drinking pale ale or IPA.  I can do heavier stuff, but like one beer and I'm good.

Favorite liquors? I don't drink liquor, really.

Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon? I like Eagle Rare from Buffalo Trace.  I can only do a little bit of bourbon at a time.  I just like some to warm up the thorat/chest.

Favorite cocktails? Again, rarely drink liquor.  I pretty much stick to beer and wine. I do enjoy margaritas when out for Mexican and there's a martini bar downtown that does all the crazy/fun martinis and when we go, I always get a grasshopper and something fruity too.

    ETA:

Wine: Pinot Grigio or a dry Sauvignon Blanc and pretty much any dry red.  Besides Sangria (which is really more of a cocktail, no?), I cannot do sweet wine.
  • Ooo, I forgot to list wine.  I'll change it.
  • I'll play

Favorite beers? I'll try just about anything but I tend to gravitate towards pale ales, IPAs, and pilsners. We are surrounded by breweries where I live and always have an abundance of new things to try and new favorites

Favorite liquors? Gin. All the gin. There's a craft distillery about 45 minutes from my house that makes the most delicious varieties of gin.

Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon? I like honey whiskey but that's about it for anything brown.

Favorite cocktails? I don't drink cocktails with any regularity but when I do, it's something like a vodka or gin and tonic. In the fall I'll get honey whiskey and apple cider and dash some cinnamon on top.

Favorite wine grape? Oh gosh, this is like picking a favorite child. Unless it's something super sweet, I'll drink it. If I'm absolutely forced to pick, I'd drink champage all day, every day if I could.
  • My tastes are leaning toward cheap these days (and I can't spell)
Favorite beers? Now I just go for Yuengling when at home.  If I'm out I like to go for a heffeweissen
Favorite liquors? bourbon, but I've been having fun making flavored vodkas
Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon? To sip Glenlivet, Basil Hayden for a martini
Favorite cocktails? I always default to a Manhattan up, but I also enjoy trying things on the menu and I've been digging Moscow Mules
Favorite wine grape I don't particularly care for wine, but when I go for it I want fruity and bubbly.

YAS!  I wish I could be Heather 'fancy pants' Dubrow.  I love the champs.
  • I can't drink champagne.  It's better than it used to be, but I can only handle about a glass before it just makes me drunk as hell.  I do love a good prosecco though.

  • Favorite liquors? Gin. All the gin. There's a craft distillery about 45 minutes from my house that makes the most delicious varieties of gin.

I think this may be the one DH and I went to a couple summers ago.  I brought home 2 bottles of bourbon.

There's been a few popping up around here that have gotten on the gin bandwagon. I'm loving it because it got H to finally starting liking gin, after he realized it wasn't all the London style dry gin that he was used to.
  • Favorite beers? Cream Ale. Its hard to find, but amazing!
Favorite liquors? Amaretto (warmed) or Malibu Rum
Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon? Not much for any of them.
Favorite cocktails? Malibu and Sprite is my go to.
Favorite wine grape? Anything that is open.  Wine is my go to drink.

  • I'll play! This is fun!

Favorite beers: I'm not really a beer person, but I do enjoy Amstel or Sam Adams now and then - especially in hot weather.

Favorite liquors: Vodka in all weather (preferably Ketel One, Chopin, or Reyka), and in warmer weather light rum or tequila.

Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon: Definitely not a Scotch/whiskey person, although DH is really into the single malts and Irish whiskey. I didn't think I was a bourbon person, but the other day I tried Woodford Reserve and loved it.

Favorite cocktails: I'm typically a vodka & seltzer or vodka martini drinker, but enjoy a good white sangria, champagne cocktail, or mixed drink with rum.

Favorite wine: anything dry (I cannot do sweet wine): sauvignon blanc, champagne, prosecco, and nice dry full-bodied reds.

  • Favorite liquors? Gin. All the gin. There's a craft distillery about 45 minutes from my house that makes the most delicious varieties of gin.

Gin is the one alcohol I have never been able to develop a taste for.  I do like Smalls Gin, but it basically doesn't taste like gin, so.....http://www.ransomspirits.com/spirits.php
  • Favorite beers? Cream Ale. Its hard to find, but amazing!

We have a local brewery here that makes a decent cream ale.  Also, I've found that anything labeled 'farmhouse' ale is close to a cream ale (New Belgium has one...I think it's seasonal (late summer/fall).
  • @VarunaTT That gin sounds delicious!
  • Now THIS is my kind of post.

Favorite beers: I don't really drink beer. I am a sucker for a good hard cider, but I'm not sure if that counts. My favorite at the moment is Angry Orchard Hop'n Mad Apple.

Favorite liquors: Vodka or Captain Morgan. Or Coconut Rum. Also, the island that we went to for our honeymoon had a rum distillery and they made the BEST vanilla rum. I know it's pretty basic-white-girl of me, but I don't like liquor that has too strong of a taste.

    Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon: Can't do it.

Favorite cocktails: I love a good margarita. Also, basically any kind of martini.

Favorite wine: I, like cupcait, feel like I am now being forced to pick a favorite child. I just love wine. I usually drink pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc. I also wish I was as fancy as Heather Dubrow so I could drink champs all day long. I like merlot, malbec, and cabernet too.

  • Yay! Favourive subject!

White wine- New zealand sauvignon blanc
    Red wine - italian montepulciano
liquor (I call them spirits) - gin
Beer - nope. Give me a strongbow cider (I'm that classy!
Scotch - you'd think, but I hate it. FI is obsessed. Current fave is Aberlour.
Cocktail - I'm a teenager(!), pornstar martini everytime!

  • Favorite beers?  I enjoy Belgian style beers, wheat beers, ales, stouts, lagers.  I *hate* IPAs with the burning hatred of a thousand suns, so most craft beers are a big newp for me.  They are way too overhopped, imo.

Do any of you gals use the Untappd app to log your beers?

Favorite liquors? I have developed a taste for gin, and I love whiskey (Irish and Scotch, with some bourbon thrown in.)

    Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon?
    Scotch- Overall Fav- Macallan.
Balvenie, Glenlivet, Glenmorangie, Laphroaig, Oban- all the older the better. A Knottie once said something like scotch is like a man- don't touch anything younger than 18 and it's best enjoyed alone ;-)

Irish- Overall Favs- Midleton, Tullamore Dew, and Powers.  Knappogue Castle, Teeling, Jameson.

Bourbon- Overall Favs- Pappy Van Winkle, Basil Haydens
Buffalo Trace, Blantons, Angel's Eny, Bulleit

Favorite cocktails? Mimosa, French 75, 170, Hot whiskey, Irish Coffee, Manhattans, Cosmos, Gin and Tonic, Moscow Mule, Bloody Mary.

Favorite wine grape? Overall Favs- Champagne, Pinot Grigio, The Prisoner.
Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Rose, Viognier

Fav vintners- The Prisoner Wine Company, J. Lohr, Joel Gott, Staglin Farms, Clos du Bois, Eberle

@PrettyGirlLost - J. Lohr is one of our faves as well. H got me turned on to their 7 Oaks and MIL gifted us a bottle of the Paso Robles merlot for Christmas.

ETA - totally missed the question about Untappd. I use it to log my beers and get all the badges, but half the time I forget to actually rate the beer I'm drinking.

    @PrettyGirlLost

You are my new Knottie BFF (except for the peaty scotches.  Laphroaig makes me ill, it just smells too much like kerosene and tastes too oily). I just did a Scotch tasting dinner with Balvenie.  It was quite delicious; star of the dinner was the 21 year.  I do disagree with the 18 rule though; I seem to end up liking the 12 and new 15 styles coming out. 18 always seems to get too hot again and then I'm at the 20+ and that's getting pretty pricey.  If you have a chance, get your hands on Amrut.  It's reasonably priced and out of India (so technically whiskey).  It's lovely.

I also loathe IPAs.  They irritate me to no end, b/c it's basically a peen contest.  "Who can drink the most foul tasting thing and pretend they like it!?!?"  However, I won't knock the use of hops overall b/c Expedition Stout is something like 150IBU...it's just that it's got a huge malt back too, so it's balanced.  And yummy.

For my 33rd birthday, I drank way too many French 95s (use vodka instead of gin) and spent 2 days on the couch.  WORTH IT.

    Paso Robles, YAAAS!

I usually forgot to log my beers in as well, which leads to some interesting 9am and 10am check ins the next day.

Pairing dinners are so much fun!  I'd love to do a full dinner with scotch pairings.  We did a mini dinner a few years back with Laphroaig where the drinks were paired with different oysters.  It was actually very interesting and at least one of the pairings was absolutely delicious, although I'll be damned if I can recall the type of oyster and the type of Laphroaig that course entailed now ><

I agree that there are many really good 12 and 15 year olds out there.

I have heard of Amrut and DH has had it out a few times and liked it.  But I haven't tried it. . . yet.  Thanks for the recommendation!

And yummy.

Yes, it does seem like a hipster, craft beer epeen contest!

Hmm, I'll have to try that. . . minus the sever hangover.  I can't do those any more.  Although taking a B complex vitamin before you start drinking and then again the next morning does seem to help.

*I started with the maltier beers - ales & stouts, (Left Hand Nitro is AMAZING), but have developed a palate for hops now too.  Poor H knows that now the only beers that are safe from me are his sours.  I've never been a fan of sour.

    Favorite liquors?
*I'm usually a vodka girl.  Or tequila.  Or whatever shot anyone's doing unless it's licorice, because I hate licorice.

    Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon?
*As much as I'm a beer snob, I'm lowbrow here.  Gimme some Jack & I'm good.  Oh, and Jameson's.  Can't forget the Jameson's.

    Favorite cocktails?
    *Screwdriver

    Favorite wine grape?
    *Pinot Noir or Chardonnay

  • Favorite beer: not really a beer drinker but do love Guinness in Dublin. Otherwise, a pale ale (I know that doesn't make much sense)
    Favorite liquor: vodka
Favorite scotch, whiskey or bourbon: don't have one.
Favorite cocktail: all over the place- basil/grapefruit martini, Kentucky mule, moscow mule
Favorite wine: Pinot Noir, a good old vine Zin, Pinot Grigio
  • Favorite beers? I'm not a beer drinker. Usually something like although I like Hefeweizens, that sort of thing. Beer is wasted on me.

Favorite liquors? Gin and vodka. Brand depends on what I'm making. Ketel One is my go to vodka.

    Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon? don't drink it. :(

Favorite cocktails? Moscow mule, gin and tonic, the holiday sauce (cranberry juice, vodka, elderberry flower liqueur, simple syrup, and a little club soda), vodka and cranberry juice.

Favorite wine grape? For white wine, I don't like Chardonnay. If I buy a white wine I like to get something with minerality (like Albarino or Vinho Verde), melon (NZ Sauv Blanc). Not sweet and I like crispness. Red wine- I tend to gravitate to South American wines like Malbecs or Carmeneres. My favorite red wine grape is Mourvedre- if the wine has a good percentage of that grape I find them to be nicely complex with some unexpected flavors. I have an unwritten rule that I stay away from California wines. My experiences have generally found them to be unremarkable unless you start getting into higher price points. And for Champagne/sparkling wine, I like dry bubbles.
  • Beer:  I don't drink a lot of beer.. But when I do, it's a corona (summer) or vanilla stout (winter).

Liquor: Never straight up. Completely depends on the cocktail. I'm on a bit of a mezcal kick at the moment.

    Scotch/Whiskey/Bourbon: Only for baking.

Cocktails: I tend to order spicy cocktails (blood orange margarita with a sriracha salt rim...)

Favorite wine grape: a buttery Chardonnay in the summer, and a big, old red in the winter (old vine Zin, a full Cab, or maybe a Bordeaux).
  • Favorite beers? No beer for me, thanks, can't stand the taste. Hard cider all day, though. And actually I have liked a grand total of one beer that I've tasted and it's called Sweet Baby Jesus. It's chocolate-peanut-butter flavored, though I didn't have a full glass so I don't know if I could actually drink it.

Favorite liquors? Rum. Usually can't drink it straight though unless it's really well-aged. We have a dwindling bottle that we brought back from Puerto Rico.

Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon? Generally dislike, but Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey isn't bad. And maybe Southern Comfort? Does that count?

Favorite cocktails? Anything made with gin. Especially if it also includes St. Germain. Or anything with rum. I don't really have a go-to cocktail because I like to try different ones.

    Favorite wine grape? Riesling.
    image
  • Favorite beers? Lindemans Kriek and Framboise (I don't drink beer, otherwise.)
Favorite liquors? I usually end up with rum, tequila, or vodka based drinks. I usually go for mixed drinks.
Favorite Scotch/whiskey/bourbon? This is DK's area. He's been getting into some local (TX) craft distilleries.
Favorite cocktails? margaritas, long islands, cosmos, or sweet "martini" type drinks.
Favorite wine grape? I make my own - prefer semi-sweet whites and big bold reds. (Riesling and Red Zinfandel are my favorites.)
