   We looked into Reef Coco beach or Reef Playacar a couple years ago because it was a super good deal online but we ended up with Grand Princess Riviera. I think H thought the Reef one wasn't that nice but I don't remember which one it was.

  They are really close to PDC so if you're wanting to spend time there that is a good location. We only went into downtown PDC once and don't feel a need to go back because it wasn't our thing.

  Things I look for in evaluating AIs in that area are location (how far from airport, how far from excursions I want to take), # of restaurants, and then look at Trip Advisor with a grain of salt on reviews.

  Thank you, I appreciate the info. If you don't mind my asking, what didn't you like about PDC that you won't return for?

  We just went to look at the shops and I feel like those are kind of the same thing in many of them (either that or it's the same stores as the US) not to mention neither of us likes any of the pushy or "Come in my store" "come in my store" you get in those places. We did have a good meal which was nice and it was fun to do once.
  
  A coworker of mine goes every 2 years and stays at a hotel in the heart of PDC and loves it. She likes the shops and restaurants and stuff. So just depends on what you like.
  
  I love the riviera maya area just the downtown PDC didn't work for me
