Who do I invite to the rehearsal dinner?

My mom and I can't come to an agreement on who we should invite to the rehearsal dinner. I want to invite the bridal party, my siblings, fiance's sibling and family, my parents, his parents, his step dad, our grandparents, and the officiant and his wife. However, three of my cousins are my flower girls. I need to invite them with their parents. If I do that my mom is concerned about leaving out all other aunts and uncles. Inviting all of them would bring our numbers up from 40 to 58. I am trying to keep the rehearsal dinner small. We are having all of them come to the wedding the next day. Our wedding guest number is 105. Any suggestions on what we should do?

Re: Who do I invite to the rehearsal dinner?

  • I think it would depend on if the aunts and uncles are OOT (that's what my family does). If they are, I would invite them to the RD. If not, I'd just go with the ones who are parents of the flower girls. If anyone asks, just explain they are part of the wedding party.
  • The rehearsal dinner is really only for people involved in the ceremony. There is no reason for other aunts and uncles to be invited, unless they are OOT.

  • First of all, rehearsal dinners aren't required if you don't have a rehearsal, so consider that as an option as well. Most ceremonies aren't so complicated that people even need a rehearsal.

If you decide to have one, the only people who need to be invited are the ones actually involved in the ceremony and their SOs. Plus immediate family. So aunts and uncles and OOT guests are not necessary unless they have a role in the ceremony.

  • Even OOT aunts and uncles don't need to be invited to the rehearsal dinner-really, only those persons actually in the ceremony, their SOs, and their parents if they are minors, need to be present.  It doesn't require that everyone in a circle, like all aunts and uncles, be invited.
