Illusion Neckline Dresses

I was curious on other people's experience with the illusion necklines and tanning?  I tried on a dress I REALLY love!  It is mid February and I am the palest of pale right now... haha. It looked fine, but I don't want to be pale for my wedding!!  How different will it look if I go tanning just to give myself a little color?  My wedding is in November.  Thank you! :)

Re: Illusion Neckline Dresses

  • Are you talking about tanning beds?  Don't do it!  Ever heard of skin cancer?

  • If you have a natural tan, avoiding tan lines I'm sure it will look fine. DD had an illusion neckline and low back dress. We vacationed at the beach the summer before her September wedding. She had some color but not overdone. @CMGragain  is right though - don't do a tanning bed.
  • Do you mean how will the color of mesh contrast with your tan compared to being pale?

If so, I have an illusion neckline gown and am also very pale. Since the mesh is ivory, you can't tell its even there from a distance, which I love. If I were to become tanner than the mesh, it would be very noticeable. I saw my same dress at another store on a black velvet mannequin, and it did not have the same effect since the base was darker than the mesh. I did not think it looked bad at all, it just wasn't that same effect that I love about my dress.

If that is not what you meant then feel free to ignore :)

I would love to see a picture of the dress
  • I have two skin shades - bleach and lobster - better to go with bleach than lobster!!  Seriously, it's one thing if you've got color from summer it's another to purposely go tanning, it's just not worth it.  Your dress will look lovely on you regardless of your skin color - it's the person inside that matters most!
  • Late to the party here but I had an ivory illusion neckline and am pretty pale.  I went and got an airbrush tan about 4 days before the wedding, more to just even out some natural tan lines on my upper arms and around the chest area (wedding was in Sept, so end of summer).  It turned out really nice and gave my skin a nice glow without looking like I was super tan or anything like that.
